Director Dan Trachtenberg, known for his expertise in seamlessly combining action and horror, has been chosen to helm Stranger Things season 5. This highly anticipated installment of the popular Netflix sci-fi series has experienced delays due to the ongoing writers strike. The writers guild, in their quest for fair compensation, has halted production. Despite these setbacks, the season has shown progress, with the exciting addition of Linda Hamilton, renowned for her role in Terminator, to the cast. It is worth noting that this upcoming season will also mark the end of Stranger Things as the flagship series. Today, Netflix Tudum officially announced Trachtenberg's involvement in the project.
Stranger Things Doesn't Mess Around When it Comes to Directors
Trachtenberg, who made his feature debut with the highly acclaimed film 10 Cloverfield Lane, has proven his talent as a director. He has worked on various projects, including the exciting Predator prequel Prey, and has also contributed to popular TV series such as The Boys, Black Mirror, and The Lost Symbol. In the upcoming season, he will showcase his directorial skills by helming one episode out of the total eight episodes.
Trachtenberg, although new to Hollywood, showcases his talent for seamlessly merging action and horror. This skill will be instrumental as the genre-blending series reaches its finale. Additionally, he has successfully left his mark on established franchises, exemplifying his ability to put a unique spin on iconic narratives. Given Stranger Things' history with directors, his selection is hardly surprising.
Content:
The majority of episodes in the series are directed by Matt and Ross Duffer, also known as The Duffer Brothers, the creators of Stranger Things. However, Shawn Levy, an executive producer of the show, has directed a total of 10 out of the 34 episodes. Levy is an accomplished filmmaker himself, having directed successful comedies like The Pink Panther and Night at the Museum, as well as recent collaborations with Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project.
Alongside the Duffer Brothers and Levy, Stranger Things has attracted other talented directors who typically work on one or two episodes each. Among them are Andrew Stanton, known for directing Finding Dory and Wall-E, Uta Briesewitz, who has worked on Westworld and The Wheel of Time, and Nimród Antal, the director of Predators. Trachtenberg, though currently assigned to only one episode, will certainly be a valuable addition to this talented crew.
