Stranger Things has achieved a remarkable casting triumph for its ultimate season. The renowned series, which chronicles eerie supernatural occurrences in and around the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana during the 1980s, initially premiered on Netflix in 2016. After enjoying tremendous popularity as one of Netflix's flagship shows, the series will be concluding its journey with the highly anticipated fifth season.
In a significant revelation made during Netflix's global fan event Tudum, a major announcement was made regarding Stranger Things season 5. The final season will introduce Linda Hamilton to the cast, although her specific role has not yet been disclosed.
In addition, Netflix released an upside-down monochrome Polaroid of Linda Hamilton, likely indicating the connection to the inverted dimension.
Stranger Things' Casting Trend Has Reached Its Peak with Season 5
Ever since its inception, Stranger Things has endeavored to capture the essence of the 1980s through various means. Apart from its nostalgic soundtrack and the incorporation of pop culture references, the show has also embraced the era by enlisting actors who were part of iconic productions from that time. Notably, Winona Ryder (who starred in 1988's Beetlejuice and Heathers) has been a significant presence in the series, portraying the character Joyce Byers across all 42 episodes.
Stranger Things has continued its tradition of casting actors that evoke a sense of nostalgia in every season. Season 2 brought in Sean Astin from The Goonies and Paul Reiser from Aliens, while season 3 introduced Cary Elwes from The Princess Bride. Season 4 added yet another iconic figure from the 80s, Robert Englund, known for his role in A Nightmare on Elm Street as the local legend Victor Creel.
However, Stranger Things has taken this tendency even further by casting Hamilton, who would have already secured her place as an iconic figure of the 1980s simply by starring in the genre-defining hit The Terminator. But her appearances in other cult classics like the 1984 Stephen King film Children of the Corn and the 1987 series Beauty and the Beast solidify her status as one of the most legendary performers to join the long-running series.
