Anticipation for the Final Season
The creators of Stranger Things have provided an exciting update to what could be the perfect ending to the beloved Netflix series. After Stranger Things season 4 racked up nearly 2 billion hours streamed on Netflix, anticipation for the fifth and final season is at an all-time high.
Production on Stranger Things season 5 will reportedly begin in January 2024 and, based on recent comments from the Duffer Brothers, will carry a similar look, feel, and spirit to the acclaimed first season.
The Final Season Details
Although the release date for Stranger Things season 5 has not yet been announced, the earliest that it would likely premiere is in summer 2025, some nine years after the original release of season 1. Matt and Ross Duffer have made it official that Stranger Things season 5 will be the last installment of the series, although there is always the possibility of future spinoffs or limited series with different main characters to expand the franchise.
As of the time of writing, Stranger Things season 5 is expected to run for eight episodes, marking another similarity between it and season 1. The finale of Stranger Things season 4 ended with all the main characters returning to Hawkins, indicating that The Duffer Brothers may have known how their beloved Netflix series would end for quite some time.
A Return to Season 1 Dynamics
According to the Duffer Brothers themselves, Stranger Things season 5 is going to have a lot of the same features and characteristics as the original first season. The Duffer Brothers have stated that Stranger Things season 5 will be like 'season 1 on steroids', with greater emphasis placed on the formative dynamics that made season 1 such a breakout hit for Netflix.
Matt Duffer has announced that 'because everyone’s back together in Hawkins: the boys and Eleven interacting more in line with how it was in season one.' Stranger Things season 5 is expected to run for eight episodes, marking another similarity between it and season 1.
