The most recent update from Starfield isn't major, but it does tackle a few issues that some players may have encountered involving objects getting stuck to ships during space travel. According to Bethesda's official patch notes, update 1.8.88 eliminates the "pet rock" that would occasionally trail after players in space. The patch notes also mention that loading a saved game will get rid of the unwanted hitchhiker. However, the update won't address cases of player ships becoming stuck to New Atlantis, as that fix is planned for a future update.
In addition to clearing away space debris, the patch addresses a problem that led to random firearms appearing in newly created weapon cases at Outposts. It also aims to resolve an issue that some Xbox and Microsoft Store on PC players may have encountered, where prolonged playthroughs could lead to game crashes if they did not go through Unity.
Starfield's previous update on November 30 included stability and performance enhancements, bug fixes, adjustments to make stealth more forgiving, and the ability to consume food placed in the world without picking it up.
Microsoft gaming head Phil Spencer recently announced that Starfield has drawn in over 12 million players since its launch, with the intention of the game having a lasting impact similar to Skyrim. Additionally, Bethesda is in the process of developing Starfield's initial expansion, and official mod support for the space-themed RPG is expected to be available next year.
Despite being nominated for Best RPG at The Game Awards 2023, Starfield was ultimately defeated by Baldur's Gate 3. Larian's RPG took home a total of six awards, including Game of the Year and the fan-voted Player's Voice award.
Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I'm thrilled to see that Bethesda is actively addressing issues and making improvements to Starfield. The elimination of the "pet rock" and other unwanted celestial companions is a welcome change, as it enhances the overall gameplay experience and immersion. The fact that the developers are also working on resolving issues related to stuck ships and random firearms in weapon cases demonstrates their commitment to providing a polished and enjoyable game.
The news of Starfield attracting over 12 million players since its launch is exciting and speaks to the game's potential. The intention to create a lasting impact similar to Skyrim is ambitious, and I believe Starfield has the potential to achieve this with its unique blend of space exploration, role-playing, and storytelling. The upcoming expansion and official mod support further add to the game's longevity and replay value, ensuring that players will have plenty of content to explore and enjoy in the future.
