Todd Howard of Bethesda has likened the gameplay experience of Starfield to that of Rockstar's much-loved Red Dead Redemption 2. Starfield is eagerly anticipated as the first single-player offering from Bethesda since Fallout 4 in 2015, and excitement has only grown following the recent Starfield Direct presentation. Positioned as Xbox's main release for 2023, the game has already received a dedicated showcase event and has been the subject of numerous interviews with Howard, who recently highlighted its smooth and immersive flow.
During an interview with IGN, Howard compared Starfield's gameplay flow to that of Red Dead Redemption 2, stating that both games offer the feeling of living out a fantasy. However, he clarified that Starfield's fantasy is centered around science-fiction exploration, which can sometimes involve being on a barren planet with nothing going on. Howard also emphasized the importance of feeling rooted in the game's universe, which helps to immerse players in the experience. While Starfield will have its own unique identity, it does incorporate some old west-style elements, such as the inclusion of a town that players can visit.
One of the intriguing characters players will encounter on their Starfield journeys is a space cowboy named Sam Coe. In the Starfield Direct showcase, Bethesda revealed more about the game's companion characters, among them Sam Coe, who dresses in cowboy attire. Although details about Sam Coe are still under wraps, it has been confirmed that players will have the option to pursue a romantic relationship with him. As Starfield's release date draws near, it remains to be seen whether Red Dead Redemption 2 has had any influence on the game. Bethesda fans won't have to wait much longer to find out, as Starfield is set to launch in just a few months.
Starfield launches September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X.
