With its release just months away, Starfield is already making waves in the gaming industry and is poised to be one of the biggest releases of this generation. Despite Bethesda's reputation being heavily associated with the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises, the studio has dabbled in science fiction in the past with relatively obscure adaptations of the Terminator films. However, Starfield represents a chance for the company to break away from their usual wheelhouse and offer something new and exciting to their fans. This highly anticipated sci-fi RPG has been on the radar for many gamers and is expected to dominate the AAA gaming sphere upon its release in 2023.
In terms of popularity, Starfield seems to be holding its own against some tough competition. Currently sitting at number four on the Top Sellers list on Steam, the game has already garnered a significant amount of attention. This is particularly impressive considering that Starfield has yet to be released. As of now, it is ranked below Dead by Daylight, Cyberpunk 2077, and CS:GO, but above Valve's Steam Deck device, which is at the number five spot. It's worth noting that the chart is based on revenue, so the pre-orders for Starfield may be responsible for its high position.
Despite dropping down the list, Starfield's high ranking on the Steam sales charts prior to its release is an impressive feat. Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty claims that the game will have fewer bugs than any other Bethesda game, although only time will tell if this holds true. Additionally, Todd Howard has stated that Starfield is a massive game, containing the content of five or six games in one. With an updated version of the Creation Engine and over 1,000 planets to explore, fans have plenty to anticipate, even if some consider it to be "Skyrim in space."
Starfield releases for PC and Xbox Series X/S on September 6.
