The map of Stardew Valley offers a multitude of distinctive areas waiting to be discovered by players, each with its own captivating appeal. Amidst the tranquility of Pelican Town lies a concealed passage to a fascinating underworld, accessible through a discreet sewer cover.
The Sewers that run beneath Stardew Valley can be reached through two entry points: the sewer cover located in the southern part of Pelican Town or the southern gates of Cindersap Forest. However, in order to delve into the enigmatic depths, players must first unlock access to the Sewers. This comprehensive guide will outline the steps to unlock the Sewers and unveil the hidden secrets it holds.
How to Unlock The Sewers
To access the Sewers, players must acquire a "Rusty Key" from Gunther after donating 60 items to the Museum.
Players can expand the museum's collection by contributing a range of Artifacts and Minerals. In total, there are 95 items that can be donated, including 53 Minerals and 42 Artifacts. Artifacts are commonly found in hidden spots throughout the Valley, while Minerals can be obtained through mining, defeating monsters, and opening various types of Geodes.
If players are unsure about the Museum's donation eligibility for an item, they can refer to its description in the Inventory. The description will mention that Gunther can provide more information if the item is donated to the Museum.
After obtaining the Rusty Key, it will be located in the Wallet under the Skills tab within the Main Menu. Players can utilize it to unlock access to the Sewers.
Things to Do in The Sewers
The Sewers emanate an unsettling ambiance, where faint illumination bathes the surroundings in a greenish hue, crafting a realm that feels otherworldly. This profound juxtaposition to the radiant and idyllic splendor of the Valley introduces a captivating sense of curiosity and enigma. As adventurers delve into the obscure recesses of the Sewers, they can engage in the following endeavors.
Fishing
Catching Mutant Carp and Radioactive Carp in the stagnant water of the Sewers in Stardew Valley may seem surprising, but it is the exclusive location for these special fish. Whenever players venture into the Sewers, there is a 10% chance of reeling in a Mutant Carp, which is considered one of the game's five Legendary Fish.
To catch the Radioactive Carp, another one of the game's Legendary Fish, players must have Mr. Qi's Extended Family Quest active.
In addition to these unique catches, players can find Carp, White Algae, Green Algae, and pieces of Trash in the Sewers.

Statue of Uncertainty
The Statue of Uncertainty grants players the ability to alter their in-game professions. As players advance in various Skills, they gain the freedom to specialize in particular aspects of their farm life.
For those who are uncertain about their chosen profession, they have the option to make a change by donating 10,000 gold to the Statue. This enables players to select a new Skill to pursue.
Any existing Profession Bonuses will disappear as soon as that profession is changed at the Statue of Uncertainty.
Mutant Bug Lair
As players make their way through the game, they will come across a captivating quest called the "Dark Talisman." This quest reveals a hidden chamber known as the Mutant Bug Lair, situated in the Sewers' northwest corner. In order to enter this enigmatic area, players must engage with Krobus while the quest is underway.
The Mutant Bug Lair is teeming with peculiar creatures that have undergone mutation – specifically, the Mutant Grubs and Mutant Flies. For this reason, players must come prepared with weapons and be prepared for battle.
Moreover, players have the opportunity to catch a distinctive fish called "The Slimejack" by fishing in the shallow, green waters of the Mutant Bug Lair. Although this fish is available all year round, it poses a challenging catch for players due to the incessant assaults from the mutant bugs.
Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
