To celebrate Spyro's 25th anniversary, Toys for Bob and Activision have announced that the remastered Spyro Reignited Trilogy collection has achieved a remarkable global sales milestone. The debut of the original Spyro the Dragon game on the PlayStation 1 took place 25 years ago with Insomniac Games as the developer, followed by two sequels for the same console. After the original trilogy on the PS1, the franchise changed developers, resulting in the release of various titles of differing quality over the past two and a half decades. The most recent addition to this beloved franchise, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, was released in 2018.

In a similar fashion to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Toys for Bob took on the task of remastering all three original PlayStation games of Spyro Reignited Trilogy, delivering enhanced visuals and game worlds. While staying true to the content of the original titles, the remaster also included quality-of-life improvements for a more seamless experience. As a result, the trilogy received widespread acclaim from fans and critics, who praised both its faithfulness to the originals and the enhancements made. Nearly five years after its initial release, along with subsequent ports on the Switch and PC, the trilogy has achieved an impressive sales milestone.

To kick off the franchise's "Spyroversary" month, the official Twitter account shared the sales figures for Spyro Reignited Trilogy, revealing that it has surpassed 10 million units sold worldwide across all four platforms. This includes both digital and physical sales, with retail partners providing the latter. Though it doesn't specify the platform that contributed the most sales, Spyro Reignited Trilogy performed exceptionally well on PlayStation 4 compared to Xbox One.

The original Spyro game for PlayStation 1 holds the record as the best-selling title in the franchise, with five million copies sold throughout its lifespan. Remarkably, the remastered trilogy has managed to double that figure, considering its age of nearly five years and availability on four different systems. Many nostalgic Spyro fans expressed their appreciation for the original trilogy and how the remasters successfully brought it into the modern era.

Since the trilogy remaster, the Spyro franchise has been relatively inactive. The only significant event involving Spyro in recent years was his inclusion in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled in 2019.
