Spotify's Revamped TV App: A Seamless Experience

The neglected Spotify TV app has finally received a much-needed update. With a newly-designed interface, the app is now more user-friendly, visually appealing, and intuitive. It is a significant improvement from the previous version and will be familiar to users of Spotify on desktop or mobile.

The home page of the updated Spotify TV app resembles a widescreen version of the mobile app. At the top of the page, users can find their recently played content, while scrolling down reveals a wide range of personalized recommendations. The search and library tabs remain at the top of the home screen, accompanied by a mini player that displays the current song or podcast being played.

The Spotify TV app has made an important improvement by abandoning its previous "Now Playing" queue system. The old system prioritized album art over usability, limiting visibility to only one upcoming track. The new queue system is much more practical, displaying several upcoming tracks in a vertical column on your TV screen. While album art is still present for each track, it is now showcased in a more subtle manner. Furthermore, you have the option to activate dark mode, reducing the prominence of Spotify's flashy elements. Additionally, the updated account-switching feature of the Spotify TV app allows you to easily switch between different user profiles. Located at the top-right corner of the app, a user profile icon enables this convenient functionality, resembling the profile systems of Netflix or Hulu.

These updates enhance the functionality and user-friendliness of the Spotify TV app. However, navigating through Spotify using a TV remote can be less enjoyable. To simplify your experience, utilize Spotify Connect to stream content from your phone to your TV. Simply open Spotify on your phone, start playing a song, and tap the device icon located next to the pause button at the bottom of your screen. From there, select your TV from the list of available devices.

The revamped Spotify app is now being gradually released on smart TVs, streaming sticks, and game consoles. A premium membership is not necessary.
