South Park fans are well aware that nobody is exempt from a clever insult, but the Baldur's Gate 3 team isn't afraid to fact-check them.
In South Park's newest special, Joining the Panderverse, they take an unrestrained swipe at Disney's contentious efforts towards inclusivity. Just from the trailers alone, fans were convinced that it was specifically targeting Rachel Zegler's portrayal of Snow White.
South Park: The Panderverse episode touched on Snow White without directly mentioning her, but it did discuss the known criticisms of Indiana Jones 5. The special placed blame on Kathleen Kennedy and her tendency to "add a female character and make it dull" for recent Disney failures.
Surprisingly, Baldur's Gate 3 was brought into the conversation, following South Park's well-known references to Red Dead Redemption 2. However, Matt Stone and Trey Parker's joke about Baldur's Gate 3 was debunked promptly by Larian Studios.
In South Park's newest plot twist, a small but noteworthy detail is added: the entrance into the Panderverse. Surprisingly, Eric Cartman, known for his sinister tendencies, has developed an intense fixation on Baldur's Gate 3. This enthusiasm extends so far that it even captivates his multiversal doppelgänger, a grown African-American woman.
Feigning a desire to reenter the Panderverse, this impersonator of Cartman deceives the boys into constructing a gaming setup capable of running Baldur’s Gate 3. Their spirits are crushed upon discovering that they cannot transfer their extensive 50-hour save file across the dimensional divide.
"Save games don't even transfer between PCs and PS5s, so why would they transfer between different universes?" Stan remarks to the group. The only flaw in this scheme is that, in reality, Baldur's Gate 3 does offer cross-save capabilities, prompting Larian to clarify the situation to avoid any confusion.
"Hello South Park," they tweeted. "Although Baldur's Gate 3 saves cannot cross multiversal barriers, we can confirm that they do transfer between PC and PS5!"
Paramount GlobalSouth Park's most recent special showcases the boys transformed into an ethnically diverse collective of adult women.
Unfortunately, the inaccuracy slightly undermined the punchline, but we are still delighted to witness one of our beloved games receiving any form of recognition. The South Park-esque rendition of Baldur's Gate 3's title screen is an added bonus.
At present, Larian has not announced any official intentions to incorporate a transdimensional cross-save feature in Baldur's Gate 3. However, if they do eventually decide to do so, we will be sure to inform you promptly.
