South Park Specials: What's Next After Not Suitable For Children?

A detailed look at the future of South Park television specials after the release of South Park (Not Suitable for Children) on Paramount+.

The Paramount+ Specials Deal

Paramount+ released the South Park television special — South Park (Not Suitable for Children) — on December 20, 2023. After its premiere, the streaming service has many more films of the adult animated comedy series in the works. The latest special is the sixth one that Paramount+ has produced, following the $900 million deal between the South Park co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and MTV Entertainment Studios in 2021.

The contract included the renewal of their animated show through season 30 on Comedy Central and a set amount of original made-for-streaming movies (now called television specials) to be released on Paramount+. Before South Park (Not Suitable for Children) premiered, the streaming platform had released five specials — South Park: Post Covid, South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid, South Park The Streaming Wars, South Park The Streaming Wars Part Two, and South Park: Joining the Panderverse. Each installment was solely directed and written by Parker, and that likely won't change for future films. Thankfully, after Paramount+ added the sixth special to its library, fans have much more to look forward to in the coming years.

Remaining Paramount+ Specials

Since South Park (Not Suitable for Children) was the sixth made-for-streaming special out of the 14 specified in the deal between the South Park co-creators and MTV Entertainment Studios, eight installments remain. So, Paramount+ is not even halfway through with the agreed-upon 14 South Park television specials. Unfortunately, details surrounding the upcoming eight films are unknown. But the contract clearly states that 14 will be produced, so fans will have eight more to watch in the future.

What's Next for South Park Specials?

The South Park television specials have varied in content, from a parody of the Walt Disney Company to a horrifying prediction of the COVID-19 pandemic's longevity. The most recent installment, South Park (Not Suitable for Children), served as a parody of the internet content subscription service OnlyFans and social media influencers. Whereas some of the previous specials were two-parters, the ending of the sixth film suggests that it will be a standalone story. So, the seventh Paramount+ special will likely parody some other company or relevant current events.

Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date for the seventh South Park television special, but it will likely air sometime in 2024. The streaming service seems to be sticking to a schedule of two specials per year, starting with the first two in November and December 2021, the second pair in June and July 2022, and the fifth and sixth installments in October and December 2023. Based on this pattern, the next South Park special probably won't debut until summer 2024 (at the earliest).
