Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her entire family, including her mother and son, watched Saltburn together, just to hear her 2001 song "Murder on the Dancefloor" take center stage. "I got that feeling that I find really delicious where afterwards you just want to think about the movie and talk about it," Ellis-Bextor, 44, told NME in an interview published on Wednesday, January 10. "There was a whole atmosphere to it, and I just wanted to get back into that headspace as quick as I could. It was funny and had so many great songs in there, so it was special to be a small part of that."

Barry Keoghan stars as Oliver Quick, a University of Oxford student who becomes fixated on wealthy classmate Felix Catton, played by Jacob Elordi, in the movie Saltburn. At the Catton family mansion, named Saltburn, Oliver encounters Felix's quirky family members. Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Alison Oliver, Archie Madekwe and Carey Mulligan also appear in the film.

The 2001 track "Murder on the Dancefloor" by Ellis-Bextor gained Billboard Top 100 status after being featured in Saltburn's final scene, where Keoghan's character dances naked around the Saltburn mansion to the song.

Ahead of the film’s release, Ellis-Bextor had some heads-up about how her song would be used.

"When I was recently approached for permission to include 'Murder on the Dancefloor' in a movie," she revealed to NME, "I was given minimal details but was informed that Emerald Fennell, whom I greatly admire, was the writer and director of the film, Saltburn. The only other specifics provided were that the main character would dance to the entire song while wearing nothing!"

While watching the movie, Ellis-Bextor felt anxious about her teenage son, Sonny (19), whom she shares with her husband, Richard Jones. She recalled, "I just kept thinking, 'I hope he’s OK!'" She mentioned that her mom was also present at the screening and admitted, "There were definitely a few moments where I had my head in my hands thinking, 'This is quite a lot!'" However, Sonny remained composed and handled the situation calmly.

In addition to Keoghan's nude dance break, Saltburn features a few other shocking scenes. At one point, Elordi's Felix masturbates in a bathtub, and Keoghan's Oliver drinks the remaining water. Despite initial reservations about baring it all for the role, Keoghan quickly became comfortable with the nudity, attributing it to the supportive and comfortable environment on set.
