Sony is looking to build on its recent success in the superhero genre by adding two new Marvel projects to its lineup. While specific details about these films are still under wraps, there is speculation that they could play a major role in shaping the future of Spider-Man and the overall direction of the company.

Sony Pictures Entertainment obtained the rights to Spider-Man back in 1999 and has since produced two separate film series featuring the iconic character. The first trilogy starred Tobey Maguire, while the subsequent films, known as The Amazing Spider-Man series, introduced Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. In 2015, Sony, Marvel Studios, and Disney reached an agreement to share the film rights, leading to the introduction of Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In 2019, there was a potential setback when it seemed that Spider-Man might no longer be part of the MCU. However, thanks to the passionate outcry from fans, the studios were able to reach a settlement. This resulted in the creation of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought together all three live-action Spider-Man actors and was met with both critical acclaim and box-office success. Sony has further expanded the Spider-Man universe with the release of animated films such as Into the Spider-Verse and the upcoming Across the Spider-Verse, which have also garnered significant praise and commercial achievement.

Amid the recent success of the Spider-Verse sequel, Sony has revealed plans for two new enigmatic projects. The first project, titled "untitled Sony/Marvel," is scheduled to premiere on November 8, 2024. Meanwhile, the second project, named "untitled Sony/Marvel live-action," is set to hit the screens on June 27, 2025. The lack of specific details surrounding the first project suggests the possibility of an animated film, potentially expanding the Spider-Verse universe.

The November 2024 film currently does not have any known competitors, except for the upcoming release of Gladiator 2 a few weeks later. In contrast, the June 2025 project will face tough competition from Disney's live-action adaptation of Moana and an untitled Blumhouse film.

Sony/Marvel has already announced release dates for several films, including Kraven The Hunter on October 26, 2023, Bad Bunny's El Muerto on January 12, 2024, and Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse on March 24, 2024. However, the nature of these projects remains uncertain. While Venom 3 has yet to receive a release date, it has been confirmed that filming will begin soon. Additionally, there are discussions surrounding a potential Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland, although it is currently on hold in support of the WGA strike. Speculation also exists regarding a live-action Miles Morales film and an animated series centered around Gwen Stacy. Producer Amy Pascal has mentioned the potential for numerous films featuring both Miles and Peter.
