Get ready, Shadow the Hedgehog fans: Sonic 3 has just revealed a sneak peek at the antihero's debut in the upcoming movie sequel.
The live-action Sonic franchise had a rough beginning when SEGA's speedster's design was first shown online. After much criticism, the effects team worked hard to create a better version of the iconic character, which turned out to be a positive sign.
The two movies together made over $725 million at the box office and received positive reviews from critics, possibly marking the beginning of a successful era for video game adaptations before the release of Arcane, The Last of Us, and (hopefully) Fallout. Sonic is set to return in a third movie next Christmas, where it will compete against tough competition, and will include the highly anticipated appearance of a fan favorite character. No evil will be seen or heard... only Shadow.
Shadow the Hedgehog teased in Sonic 3 sneak peek
The Sonic movie franchise's official X/Twitter account posted a picture from the set of the third movie, showcasing the enlarged Shadow the Hedgehog figure.
"The account hit the ground RUNNING," the tweet stated, and it has already accumulated over 600,000 views and received thousands of excited replies. "ALL HAIL SHADOW!" one user exclaimed, while another commented, "The voice actor announcement is going to shatter the internet."
We are still uncertain about who will be voicing Shadow in the movie. Keanu Reeves is a fan favorite, but other names like Nicolas Cage, Aaron Paul, Adam Driver, and the character's original actor Jason Griffith have also been mentioned. Director Jeff Fowler has not hinted at anything, but he did say to Polygon: "I think what fans like about him is that he's no-nonsense and very different from the other characters."
"We are thrilled to have completed the full circle. The cinematics we crafted for the game filled us with pride. It may have been just three shots at the end of the film, but being able to create a cinematic tease for him was a dream come true.
Screenwriter Pat Casey shared with The GHZ Podcast: "He's a worthy adversary for Sonic, but with a completely different personality. Unlike Knuckles, who is somewhat misled, Shadow is motivated by anger and a desire for revenge."
"I feel like Sonic when he faces Shadow. He usually relies on the power of friendship, like he does with Knuckles, but that won't work with Shadow. Sonic has never dealt with someone as emotionally damaged as Shadow, unlike Robotnik."
"Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will race into theaters on December 20, 2024. For more information, click here."

As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled to see Shadow the Hedgehog finally making his debut in the Sonic movie sequel. Shadow has always been one of my favorite Sonic characters, and I can't wait to see how he is portrayed on the big screen. I am also curious to see how his character will interact with Sonic and the rest of the cast.
I think the Sonic movie franchise has done a great job of bringing the characters and world of Sonic to life on the big screen. The movies have been fun, action-packed, and full of heart. I am confident that Sonic 3 will continue the trend and be a great addition to the franchise.
