The Big Picture
Hocus Pocus 3 is currently in development for Disney+, following the success of the previous sequel on the streaming platform.
Writer Jen D'Angelo acknowledges the difficulty of creating a third installment and is enthusiastic about the opportunity to delve into fresh storylines and ensure the movie's independent success.
In the upcoming sequel, Winifred Sanderson might embark on another revenge plot, as her susceptibility to distraction could once again cause her to become fixated on the wrong objective.
The Sanderson sisters return in Hocus Pocus 2, determined to cause havoc in Salem once again after being resurrected by the Black Flame Candle. The film's success on Disney+ has led to the greenlighting of Hocus Pocus 3 for the streaming platform. However, writer Jen D'Angelo acknowledges the difficulty of creating subsequent sequels in a recent interview. She expresses her theories and ideas for the upcoming installment, highlighting the challenge of choosing the right direction for the franchise. D'Angelo also mentions the evolution of Winifred Sanderson, hinting at a new plot involving revenge for the wicked witch of Salem.
The Sanderson sisters are known for being unpredictable and easily distracted, like herding cats. Despite learning a valuable lesson about loving her sisters above all else, Winifred can be easily swayed by other temptations. If given the opportunity for revenge against Salem, a desire she has long harbored, she may lose focus on her true goals once again.
In Hocus Pocus 2, Midler reprised her role from the 1993 film alongside Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah and Kathy Najimi as Mary. The sequel follows two young girls who unwittingly bring the witches back to life with the help of the person responsible for the Olde Salem Magic Shoppe located in their old cottage. Still resentful towards the town of Salem for exiling them, the Sanderson sisters plot to use their magic once again to make the people of Salem regret crossing their path.
