Summary
The Hocus Pocus 3 is still in development, and the team is currently in the story phase, exploring various ideas and potential storylines.
Hannah Waddingham's portrayal of The Mother Witch in Hocus Pocus 2 is being contemplated for a more prominent role. Although specific storylines have not been confirmed, the team envisions the Sanderson sisters returning as grown-ups and embarking on thrilling adventures.
Hocus Pocus 3 has received an encouraging update and a hint about a possible return of a major character. The movie is a continuation of the 2022 Disney+ original Hocus Pocus 2, which was a sequel to the beloved 1993 film Hocus Pocus. Both films revolved around the Sanderson sisters (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy), a trio of witches who wreaked havoc in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween. The new movie was officially announced in June, with director Anne Fletcher and writer Jen D'Angelo from Hocus Pocus 2 returning.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jen D'Angelo discussed her involvement in the development of Hocus Pocus 3. She revealed that progress is being made since the end of the 2023 writers strike, but they are currently in the early stages of creating the story. However, she did drop a tantalizing hint about exploring Hannah Waddingham's character, the Mother Witch, who originally provided the Sanderson sisters with their spellbook. D'Angelo mentioned that they have only just begun to delve into the depths of this character. Read D'Angelo's complete statement below:
We are currently in the midst of the story development phase, actively working on it. Our team has been generating various ideas, and it has been a delight to immerse ourselves in that captivating world once again. There are countless avenues we can explore and numerous new characters to delve into. As of now, we have only scratched the surface of Hannah Waddingham's Mother Witch. [No storylines are concrete yet.] I firmly believe that she is the mother mentioned in the original movie, the one associated with the scorpion pie. Their relationship is far more profound than what has been revealed thus far. However, the possibility of uncovering more is not out of the question. We are open to all possibilities. It is certain that we are eager to see the Sanderson sisters in their adult years once again. [Nevertheless, I was enthralled by the child actors portraying them,] and I hope we can explore every facet of these narratives, taking these characters on thrilling escapades. Hocus Pocus 3 is still in its early stages, and its exact nature remains uncertain. Nonetheless, we are actively exploring all potential paths, buoyed by the overwhelmingly positive response to Hocus Pocus 2. We are genuinely excited to continue weaving these enchanting tales.
More to come...
