Simone Biles had her husband Jonathan Owens cheering her on at the U.S. Core Hydration Classic on Saturday, May 18.
Owens, 28, watched from the bleachers as Biles, 27, performed her vault routine at the Core Hydration Classic in Hartford. This was her first competition of the season after debuting at Gymnastics Camp. The NFL player, currently with the Chicago Bears, seemed to hold his breath as he watched his wife soar through the air in a Yurchenko double-pike vault. He jumped to his feet in applause when she stuck the landing.
Jonathan Owens was a big fan of Simone Biles' vault performance, according to a video shared by NBC Olympics on Instagram.
Biles received the highest score of the night for her vault, as reported by NBC News. She also excelled in the balance beam, floor routine, and uneven bars, ultimately winning the all-around title for the meet.
Biles expressed her happiness to be back competing during the meet broadcast on Peacock. She emphasized the importance of supporting each other, cheering on, having confidence in each other's abilities, and hoping for the best in gymnastics.
Owens showed his support for Biles following his previous controversial comments. In December 2023, he gained attention for referring to himself as the "catch" in their relationship on "The Pivot" podcast. Owens also admitted to not knowing Biles when they first connected on the dating app Raya in 2020.

During the April 17 episode of the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Biles shared her thoughts on the interview with Owens. She mentioned that she didn't pay much attention to it and clarified that he never said she wasn't a catch, but rather that he himself was a catch. Biles expressed admiration for Owens, stating that she had never met anyone like him and that many people who meet him express a desire for a partner like him.
Reflecting on Owens' comments, Biles revealed that she was present during the interview, although she was not visible in the videos. She shared that she was feeling positive and proud of Owens' performance. Biles recalled a moment in the video where the camera panned to her, capturing a viral moment, to which she responded by rolling her eyes and laughing.
Biles and Owens got married in April 2023 after dating for two years. Biles, who holds the record for the most Olympic and World Championship medals in gymnastics with a total of 37, shared that she was deeply affected by the criticism she received.
In an interview with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper, Biles revealed, “He admires me so much. Honestly, I’ve never met anyone like him. He still opens doors for me.” She added, “I'm not saying this to suggest that men should always open doors, but he genuinely goes above and beyond to make me feel special.”
She added, “If anybody’s met him, they know he’s the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody.”
