In July 2021, coach Cecile Canqueteau-Landi congratulated Biles as she secured the Olympic bronze medal in the balance beam final. Biles had withdrawn from multiple events in Tokyo due to concerns regarding her mental health, specifically dealing with "the twisties." This psychological hurdle in gymnastics causes athletes to lose their spatial awareness midair. The comeback trail

After enduring a challenging journey, Biles seems to be regaining her formidable form. By triumphing at the US Women's World Championships Selection Event, she secured her place in the world championships. This marks a significant step in her comeback to competitive gymnastics following her withdrawal from multiple events at the Tokyo Olympics Games due to the debilitating "twisties" condition. The "twisties" refers to a mental obstacle that causes gymnasts to lose their spatial awareness while in the air.

Having already secured her eighth national all-around title with an outstanding performance at the US Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, California, a month prior, Biles disclosed her apprehension on the eve of the world championships, expressing doubts about her ability to continue competing at her previous level.

"I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to compete again. Throughout this year, there were several instances in the gym where I felt a deep fear of performing the full-in. I even made up my mind that I would never attempt it again," Biles shared exclusively with Olympics.com.

"However, I had a change of heart and decided to give it another shot on a different day, telling myself, 'I'll come back and try again.'"

Biles wrote on Instagram, "Returning to where it all began. Looking forward to seeing you soon, Belgium."

In her world championships debut in Antwerp 10 years ago, Biles won all-around and floor exercise golds, as well as vault silver and beam bronze.

She now holds a staggering total of 25 world championship medals, with 19 golds, three silvers, and three bronzes. Her most recent participation in the world championships occurred in 2019, where she achieved an impressive victory of five gold medals. This exceptional accomplishment is something she has the potential to replicate at the upcoming championships in Belgium. Biles has already established herself as the most accomplished gymnast in the history of the United States, having claimed 32 medals throughout the Olympics and world championships.

Biles now places her sole focus on medals and accolades, redefining the meaning of success for herself.

"So, now, its just showing up, being in a good head place, having fun out there, and whatever happens, happens."
