Simone Biles Opens Up About Overcoming Backlash Towards Husband Jonathan Owens

Simone Biles shares her emotional journey after husband Jonathan Owens faces criticism following a widely viewed interview in December 2023.

Simone Biles was present for the entirety of husband Jonathan Owens’ now-viral interview — and she never expected it to cause major controversy online.

During a podcast episode with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper on Wednesday, April 17, Biles shared her thoughts on the interview. She clarified that she didn’t think much of it and explained that Owens never said she wasn’t a catch. Instead, he referred to himself as a catch.

Biles praised her husband, stating that she has never met a man like him before. She mentioned that many people who meet Owens express admiration and wish to find a partner like him.

Owens, who is 28 years old, gained attention in December 2023 for mentioning on the “The Pivot” podcast that he considers himself the "catch" in his relationship with Biles. Some listeners were also upset with Owens, an NFL player, when he confessed that he didn't know who Biles was when they first connected on Raya in 2020.

On the other hand, Biles remained unbothered by the situation. She mentioned, "I was in the room. I was sitting on the chair. You just couldn’t see me on the videos. I was there for the whole entire video," she shared on Wednesday. "I was feeling great. I was like, ‘My man just killed that.’"

She mentioned that they even showed her viral moment on camera, and she just rolled her eyes and laughed.

After the interview, Biles thought everything was fine. However, when she checked Twitter, she saw people telling her to leave the man because he was being mean.

But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Biles told “Call Her Daddy” host Cooper that Owens is “the sweetest” person.

Simone Biles shared on Instagram about her boyfriend Jonathan Owens. She said, "He praises the ground that I walk on. Truly, I’ve never met a man like him." She also mentioned how he still opens doors for her and goes out of his way to do anything for her.

Biles and Owens met on Raya when he moved to Texas, where her gym is located. They got engaged in February 2022 after being together for two years, and they got married in April 2023. (Owens previously played for the Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers before recently joining the Chicago Bears.)

Biles shared her thoughts on a controversial interview, stating that it was focused on Owens and not her. She mentioned that sometimes she attends football games to support Owens, not to draw attention to herself. Biles emphasized that those moments are for Owens, allowing him to shine in his interviews without any interruptions from her.

Biles initially found the backlash amusing, but it eventually became painful for her. She shared, "I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this?’ You don’t know him. You don’t know who he is." She defended her husband, describing him as a kind-hearted person who is always willing to help others.

Biles added: “Talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family.”
