Silo producer and star, Rebecca Ferguson, discusses the cliffhanger ending of the season 1 finale and its implications for the upcoming season 2. Silo is a popular television show based on Hugh Howey's bestselling novel series, set in a dystopian future where humanity resides in a solitary underground facility due to an unknown catastrophe making the Earth's surface uninhabitable. However, as is typical in science fiction, there is more to the silo than initially meets the eye. The Apple TV+ series follows Ferguson's character, Juliette "Jules" Nichols, a rebellious mechanical expert who works in the depths of the facility. Unexpectedly, she takes on the role of sheriff and delves into a mysterious investigation that slowly unveils the true, terrifying nature of the silo.
As fans anxiously await the highly-anticipated second season of Silo, the show's producer and star Ferguson recently spoke about the season 1 cliffhanger ending. In this ending, Jules finally gets a taste of the outside world beyond the silo, prompting discussions about what this means for the show's future. Ferguson shared insights into portraying the overwhelming emotions one might experience when faced with a whole new reality, as well as the implications of leaving the silo for season 2. Read on to discover Ferguson's thoughts on this exhilarating moment:
It was truly a challenge for me to visually depict the magnitude of everything Jules had gone through. My main objective was to convey the deep sense of awe one would feel when stepping outside the confines of the silo. These characters (within the show) have never witnessed the vastness of the sky, the breadth of the horizon, the depths of various terrains, or the textures of gravel and stones. Although they have familiarity with fields and corn, this new environment is entirely different... it's truly astounding to stay in that very moment. Furthermore, when you factor in the journey of deception, the artificial world within the screens, and the human bodies, as well as climbing up a hill and taking in the breathtaking surroundings, there is so much to explore and capture.
What’s To Come In Silo Season 2
Everything in season 2 is incredibly intriguing because it has completely turned upside down. The character's development is captivating. A recent incident on Instagram captured my attention— an imprisoned chimpanzee, a research monkey, was finally set free after a lifetime of being locked in a cage. As it emerged for the first time, it was fascinating to observe the chimp's expressions, the way it eagerly surveyed the sky, sprinted across the field, and explored its surroundings with genuine curiosity and joy. You could sense the transformation in the air, the difference it felt. This reminded me of Juliette's journey, which is both melancholic and profoundly poignant. What lies beyond the confines of her current situation? The uncertainty of her future troubles us all. Standing alone in that frightful moment, she confronts a sensation of gripping fear, yet it is strangely exhilarating and filled with novelty.Following the release of season 1 on Apple TV+ on May 5, 2023, the confirmation of Silo season 2 came on June 14. Apple TV+ head of programming, Matt Cherniss, expressed his satisfaction with the show's success, stating, "Observing Silo, a captivating, immersive, and exquisitely crafted science fiction masterpiece, rapidly rise to the top of Apple's drama series is truly gratifying." In an attempt to attract a wider audience for Silo, Apple TV+ recently made the entire first season available for viewing on Twitter.
Viewers captivated by the dystopian drama of Silo were left in suspense with a true cliffhanger in episode 10, leaving Juliette's fate hanging in the balance. As Silo season 2 approaches, it remains uncertain how the story will unfold. With the source material being a book series, Silo has a wealth of material to draw upon, including prequel stories that could provide flashback opportunities. With Ferguson busy filming Silo season 2, audiences can expect Juliette's exploration of the outside world and the unraveling of the silo's mysteries to be significant aspects of the future narrative in Apple TV+'s leading drama series.
