Paramount Global has bid farewell to the Showtime brand and rebranded its linear Showtime cable network as Paramount+ with Showtime. The rebrand, effective January 8, 2024, integrates both streaming and linear content and allows Showtime subscribers to access Paramount+ original series like Sexy Beast and the highly anticipated second season of Halo, along with other Paramount+ content. The rebranded cable network also includes select Paramount+ originals such as Taylor Sheridan’s Mayor of Kingstown Seasons 1-2, Star Trek: Discovery Seasons 1-4, and Wolf Pack Season 1.
The rollout of the new platform may not be as simple as it seems, especially for existing subscribers who may encounter uncertainties. Particularly, linear Showtime channel subscribers will not automatically have access to the Paramount+ with Showtime streaming plan. Instead, these cable subscribers can access content online through authenticated streaming apps provided by pay-TV partners, in line with Paramount Global's agreements with select pay-TV providers.
The transition also indicates the gradual discontinuation of the standalone Showtime streaming app, as the company shifts its focus to the Paramount+ with Showtime plan. The updated network's lineup will include new additions such as Paramount+ original series like The Woman in the Wall, Fellow Travelers, The Chi, The Curse, Yellowjackets, and Your Honor.

Editor's P/S
As a passionate fan of Showtime, I am both excited and apprehensive about the upcoming rebranding to Paramount+ with Showtime. On the one hand, the integration of Showtime's original shows into the Paramount+ streaming service promises a more comprehensive and seamless streaming experience. The addition of popular Paramount+ originals like "Sexy Beast" and "Halo" to Showtime's already impressive lineup is particularly enticing.
However, the potential complexities surrounding access for existing Showtime subscribers give me pause. The fact that linear Showtime channel subscribers will not automatically have access to the Paramount+ with Showtime streaming plan is concerning. While I understand the need for agreements with pay-TV partners, it seems like an unnecessary hurdle for loyal Showtime viewers who may now have to navigate multiple platforms to access their favorite content.
