The mystery surrounding Major League Baseball star Shohei Ohtani's marriage has finally been solved. Just two weeks after surprising everyone with the announcement, he has now disclosed the identity of his new wife - who happens to be a top athlete as well.
Ohtani, who is 29 years old, shared a picture on Instagram last Thursday. The photo showed him and his partner standing next to each other by the Los Angeles Dodgers’ team plane as they were heading to South Korea.
Although Ohtani did not mention her name in the post, the Dodgers later verified that the woman in the picture is Mamiko Tanaka. She is a former standout player for Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women’s Japan Basketball League.
Tanaka, 27, has represented Japan at U16, U17, and U18 levels, as stated on FIBA's website.
Ohtani, a well-known player with dual skills on the field, is a beloved figure in Japan.
He caused a stir on February 29 when he announced on Instagram that he had tied the knot with a "Japanese woman" who holds a special place in his heart. However, he chose not to reveal any further information about her identity.
