Summary
Emma Roberts has been accused of transphobic behavior by her American Horror Story co-star Angelica Ross.
During an Instagram Live session, Ross recounted an incident on set where Roberts uttered a transphobic remark. As a result, Ross decided to avoid any further communication with Roberts throughout the remainder of the shoot due to apprehensions about potential repercussions. This decision was influenced by the fact that individuals who had previously spoken up against Roberts' actions had faced negative consequences in the past.
Emma Roberts has been accused by her American Horror Story co-star Angelica Ross of creating a hostile work environment. Ross, who made her American Horror Story debut in season 9, accused Roberts of displaying transphobic behavior while on set.
Ross, a trans woman, recounts a situation on set where she had a conflict with Roberts. When they were told "OK ladies, that’s enough," Ross explains that Roberts slyly turned away and said, "don’t you mean lady?" Despite feeling furious, Ross decided not to confront Roberts due to witnessing others facing consequences for speaking out against her behavior during filming. Please read Ross' statement below:
Standing beside the mirror, she faces me and says, "John, Angelica is being unkind..." It's not meant to be taken seriously. And John intervenes, saying, "Alright everyone, that's enough. Let's get back to work."
She glanced at me and asked, "Don't you mean lady?" Then, she quickly covered her mouth. I stared directly into the camera, wearing a bewildered expression, wondering what offensive remark she had just made. As I tried to comprehend her words, anger welled up inside me. I hesitated to speak up, fearing that I would be the one blamed for causing trouble. I knew this because someone else had previously voiced their concerns about her actions and faced consequences as a result.
So when I saw that happening, I was just like “I’m done.” I didn’t speak to that b***h the entire time after that.
Emma Roberts and American Horror Story Have a History of Controversies
Both Emma Roberts and American Horror Story have found themselves in trouble before. In 2013, Roberts was involved in an incident with her then-boyfriend and American Horror Story co-star, Evan Peters. They reportedly had a physical altercation during an argument, resulting in Peters having a bloody nose. Roberts was arrested, but later on, bruises appeared on her as well. However, Peters chose not to press charges.
American Horror Story has faced significant controversies, especially in recent times. Ross made another statement, revealing that Ryan Murphy had promised her a season with a Black lead but later abandoned the idea without explanation. Additionally, there have been rumors that Delicate was produced using replacement writers and actors during ongoing strikes, but the extent to which these strikes were respected or violated remains uncertain due to conflicting reports.
These controversies, some of which occurred years ago, may have major consequences. Ross' accusations are particularly relevant as Roberts is currently leading American Horror Story season 12, set to premiere on FX on September 20. However, it remains uncertain if there will be any consequences or resolutions for these issues.
