In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Owens finally broke his silence regarding the highly anticipated live-action One Piece series, which had been put on hold due to the ongoing writers' strike. Owens used this opportunity to shed light on his efforts to cast Jamie Lee Curtis as Doctor Kureha in the upcoming second season of One Piece. "We discovered that Jamie Lee Curtis is an avid fan of One Piece. Once we found that out, we knew we had to do whatever it takes to bring her on board. And luckily, the character of Doctor Kureha aligns perfectly with Jamie Lee Curtis," Owens revealed.

Owens discussed their efforts to make their dream casting a reality. Following her Oscar win, the writers room sent Curtis a Doctor Kureha figurine along with a congratulatory note, suggesting they would like to collaborate with her. The post garnered significant fan interest, and Owens commented on it, expressing their desire for her to join Season 2. However, due to the ongoing actors' strike, there hasn't been an official conversation with Curtis regarding the role yet.
