Shocking Exits: Say Goodbye to These 6 Characters in Good Omens Season 2!

Good Omens Season 2 bids farewell to beloved characters Adam Young, Anathema Device, Newton Pulsifer, Madame Tracy, Sergeant Shadwell, and Hastur, paving the way for an exciting new story filled with fresh faces

Summary

Good Omens season 2 heralds the emergence of an enthralling tale, weaving in fresh narratives and bidding farewell to certain beloved characters from season 1 such as Adam, Anathema, Newton, Madame Tracy, and Hastur.

In the previous season, Adam Young, the remarkable offspring of Satan, valiantly thwarted the imminent Apocalypse with the invaluable aid of his staunch companions, ultimately relinquishing his extraordinary abilities.

Anathema Device, a descendant of Agnes Nutter, and Newton Pulsifer, a descendant of a witchfinder, fell in love and made the decision to move on from their supernatural heritages.

The highly anticipated second season of Good Omens is finally here, bringing back the beloved characters of Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant). However, not all of the characters from the first season will make a return. In 2019, Amazon Prime delighted audiences with Good Omens, a fantastical comedy TV series based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. This captivating show introduced viewers to the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, who formed an unlikely bond over the centuries spent on Earth and have secretly collaborated without Heaven and Hell's knowledge.

Good Omens season 1 witnessed the collaboration of Aziraphale and Crowley in their quest to prevent the apocalypse triggered by the arrival of the Antichrist. Surprisingly, the Antichrist, a witch, and a series of prophecies played a vital role in successfully averting the end of the world. Furthermore, Aziraphale and Crowley managed to deceive Heaven and Hell during their expected demise, ultimately leaving them alone on Earth. In Good Omens season 2, their partnership resumes as a peculiar twist occurs – archangel Gabriel (portrayed by Jon Hamm) unexpectedly appears at the bookshop, completely unaware of his own identity. Going beyond the source material, Good Omens season 2 introduces a brand-new storyline, resulting in the exclusion of some characters from season 1. Here are six characters who will not be returning in the upcoming season.

6 Adam Young

In Good Omens season 1, Adam Young (played by Sam Taylor Buck) emerged as a formidable threat, being none other than the Antichrist. The original plan was for Crowley to deliver Adam to the satanic convent called The Chattering Order of St. Beryl. There, the nuns would swap him with the baby of American diplomat Thaddeus Dowling and his wife, ensuring that the Antichrist was raised in the right environment. However, due to a mix-up caused by a confused nun, the Antichrist ended up in the care of the middle-class family, the Youngs. This unexpected turn of events added complexity to both Aziraphale and Crowley's mission to prevent the Apocalypse and the plans of Hell and Heaven. The child they believed to be the Antichrist turned out to be an impolite and spoiled human, while the true son of Satan was entirely different.

Even though Adam was not inherently evil, his encounter with the Hellhound changed everything. He adopted the creature, affectionately naming it "Dog," and unexpectedly gained unfettered access to his latent powers, which eventually spiraled out of control. Faced with this overwhelming threat, Adam's friends and even Dog abandoned him due to their fear. Determined not to succumb to his destructive potential, Adam rallied his friends and together they thwarted the Four Horsemen.

However, the ultimate test lay ahead as Adam confronted his own father, Satan (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch), boldly asserting that the devil was not his true parent. Astonishingly, this declaration became a reality, enabling Adam to return to his ordinary life as a regular boy. Yet, he retained some remnants of his extraordinary abilities.

5 Anathema Device

Adria Arjona portrays Anathema Device, a witch and a direct descendant of Agnes Nutter. Agnes Nutter, a renowned 17th-century witch, was unfortunately the last witch to be burned alive in England. As a prophet, Agnes authored the spellbinding book titled "The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch," which contained numerous insightful prophecies spanning countless years into the future. However, these prophecies required interpretation due to their implicit nature. To bravely safeguard the world from the impending rise of the Antichrist, Anathema diligently studied her ancestor's book and familiarized herself with all the prophecies. This compelled her to journey from the United States all the way to Tadfield.

During her research of the Antichrist, Anathema encountered Adam and his companions, unaware of his true identity as the Antichrist, as well as Newton Pulsifer, a descendant of the witchfinder responsible for Agnes' demise. Following the successful prevention of the Apocalypse, Anathema and Newton chose to remain together. In the concluding moments of Good Omens season 1, Anathema received a copy of Agnes' second book containing additional prophecies. At Newton's suggestion, she decided to burn it, freeing herself from being a descendant burdened by Agnes' prophecies. As her storyline has come to a close and lacks any connection to Aziraphale and Crowley's new escapade, Anathema will not be returning for Good Omens season 2.

4 Newton Pulsifer

Newton Pulsifer, portrayed by Jack Whitehall, is a computer engineer who ironically possesses a knack for wreaking havoc on every computer he encounters or attempts to repair. Interestingly, Newton is a direct descendant of the infamous witchfinder General Thou-Shalt-Not-Commit-Adultery Pulsifer, renowned for his involvement in burning Agnes Nutter at the stake. After losing his job, Newton chances upon Shadwell on the street, who persuades him to join as a Witchfinder Private, primarily as an escape from his mundane existence. As assigned by Shadwell, Newton sets off to Tadfield with the objective of locating the Antichrist, the young boy named Adam Young. During his quest, he crosses paths with Anathema, fulfilling Agnes Nutter's prophecy. It is Newton who reveals to Anathema the true identity of the Antichrist. In the midst of a tempest caused by Adam's powers, Newton and Anathema find solace under the shelter of a bed, where their connection deepens.

3 Madame Tracy

Newton’s uncanny ability to disable every computer he came into contact with proved to be of incredible value when he thwarted the launch of the world’s nuclear warheads, single-handedly preventing an apocalyptic catastrophe. By the conclusion of Good Omens season 1, Newton and Anathema had chosen to live together, renouncing their connections to both witchfinders and witches, and forging their own unique paths. Regrettably, Newton Pulsifer will not be making a comeback in Good Omens season 2, as his storyline, alongside Anathema's, has reached its satisfying conclusion.

Miranda Richardson stars as Madame Tracy, a Medium and an "intimate care and relaxation" professional residing in an apartment across from Sergeant Shadwell. Despite Shadwell's offensive remarks about her occupation, Madame Tracy remains composed and tolerant. She becomes the first documented case of Angelic Possession when Aziraphale is disincorporated. Ultimately, Madame Tracy and Shadwell join forces to fulfill their role in preventing the apocalypse. By the conclusion of Good Omens season 1, they decide to depart from London and start a new life together.

2 Sergeant Shadwell

Miranda Richardson returns to Good Omens season 2 in a new role as Shax, a demon sent to Earth who shares a history with Crowley. Despite their physical resemblance, Shax and Madame Tracy are completely unrelated characters.

The Witchfinder Army's Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell (Michael McKean) is now the sole remaining sergeant, a role that has taken a toll on him. In order to cope with his solitude, he has appointed inanimate objects as sergeants. As previously mentioned, Shadwell enlisted the help of Newton Pulsifer and eventually joined forces with Madame Tracy/Aziraphale to prevent the Apocalypse. At the conclusion of Good Omens season 1, Shadwell had a change of heart regarding Madame Tracy and agreed to move in with her, leaving London behind. Since there is no need for witchfinders in Good Omens season 2, it is unlikely that Shadwell will make a return.

1 Hastur

Hastur, portrayed by Ned Dennehy, is a demon and the Duke of Hell. Alongside Ligur, who perished in season 1 due to holy water, he descended to Earth with the mission of delivering the newborn Antichrist to Crowley. Once the Antichrist was handed over to the nuns, Hastur disbanded the Order and set the Nunnery ablaze. Years passed, and Hastur dispatched a Hellhound to locate the Antichrist, while making preparations for the impending Apocalypse. Unfortunately, he was unaware that the child he believed to be the Antichrist was not the genuine one. During a confrontation with Crowley, who imprisoned him in an answering machine, Hastur was disintegrated as Crowley skillfully drove through the inferno. However, in the concluding moments of Good Omens season 1, Hastur made a comeback, intending to bring Crowley back to Hell for execution.

In their last encounter, Hastur, along with Beelzebub and the other demons, was astonished to witness Crowley's survival after a baptism in holy water. They reached a mutual agreement to leave Crowley undisturbed. The reason for Hastur's absence in Good Omens season 2 remains unknown, but it is possible that this season will depict a diminished Hell representation.
