Sheryl Lee Ralph dismissed rumors that she recently started living with her husband, Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Hughes, following their 18-year marriage.
The star of Abbott Elementary, 66, debunked the claim, telling E! News in an interview published on Wednesday, December 6, "It's not true at all. If you're going to write things, just try to get it close to right. We've been married for 18 years and together for 21 years."
Hughes, 67, and Ralph got married in 2005, almost four years after her divorce from Eric Maurice. The actress and Maurice have a son, Etienne, and a daughter, Ivy.
"We live together on and off because I'm shooting Abbott Elementary in L.A. while he is at the Capitol every week," Ralph told E! News. "So, we see each other in between our busy schedules."
She also joked that Hughes is "her man" and that she's happily "booed up" during "cuffing season," a modern term for individuals starting romantic relationships during the winter months to stay cozy amid the cold weather.
Rumors about Ralph's marriage caused a stir when she revealed to Extra that the couple doesn't live together. "I see him every two weeks and when I see him I'm thrilled, but then I'm also happy to leave because I know I'll be back again," she stated, explaining that this arrangement works for them. Ralph portrays kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard on ABC's Abbott Elementary, which has resumed production after labor strikes. Despite the show being set in Philadelphia, it is filmed in Los Angeles, as Hughes maintains Pennsylvania residency due to his political career.
“When I first read the script, I was drawn to the character of Ava,” Ralph exclusively told We in April about his involvement in Quinta Brunson’s comedy, referring to the role that would later be played by costar Janelle James. "And Quinta was insistent, saying, ‘Absolutely not! We need you to be the queen for Barbara.’ So I thought, ‘Well, alrighty then. Thank you.’"

The Emmy awardee stated, "What truly stands out about Barbara is her dedication to people. Her passion for her work, her care for the students she is responsible for every year. She is the type of person who is willing to respectfully disagree, but you'll end up seeing things her way in the end. That's what I admire about her. She is an exceptional person."
Abbott Elementary season 3 returns on February 7, 2024.
