Shakira is opening up about her life with her two sons after her breakup with Gerard Piqué. During an interview with Zane Lowe released on March 20, the 47-year-old singer talked openly about raising her and Piqué's boys, Milan and Sasha, on her own.
Despite being busy with work commitments, Shakira always makes sure to prioritize spending quality time with her children. She shared that amidst shooting videos, photos, and preparing for album releases, she still manages to find time to be with her kids. She mentioned that sometimes she goes to sleep as late as 9 or 11 in the morning due to her hectic schedule.
Shakira, the Grammy winner, recently gave a peek into her busy daily schedule. She mentioned, "Yesterday, I got back home at seven in the morning. My kids were already up, so I had breakfast with them, hung out with them. Sometimes I don’t even go to bed until they do."
Shakira chuckled as she admitted that she's feeling exhausted, saying, "I'm running on empty because I prioritize spending time with my kids. After putting them to sleep, I crash. It's been hectic, trying to balance everything."

She shared, "Being a single mother is new to me, and it comes with its challenges. But my kids are amazing."
Shakira confirmed that her boys are a "great support" when Lowe asked if they understand her need to work. "They understand how crucial making music is for me, staying productive, feeling valued in society, and finding their own place in the community," she explained. "They are really good at grasping that and backing me up."
Reflecting on her time living in Barcelona when her children were younger, Shakira shared her feelings of guilt. She expressed how torn she felt between motherhood and her career. "Every time I had to go to the studio for work, I felt like I was neglecting my family," she remembered. "There were moments when I didn't even enjoy my work. I felt torn and guilty."
Things have changed over time. "Now, it feels totally different. Even though it’s more challenging because now I’m in charge of these two kids, these two babies that depend on me so much. And I’m a single mother, I don’t have a husband at home to help out with anything," she added.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer continued to say that despite the balancing act of work and home life, she is more dedicated to her music than ever.
"I have two main motivations right now - I want to go on tour and perform for my fans to become a better artist for them, and I also want to set a good example for my kids."
Shakira, 37, and Piqué announced their separation in June 2022 after being together for 11 years. Recently, Shakira revealed that she had made significant sacrifices for their family before their relationship ended.
