However, a report released on April 28, 2023, raised concerns about a potential delay in the release of the second season, citing a disagreement between showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman. The report also highlighted extensive script rewrites and high episode costs as contributing factors to the production delay for Season 2.
These claims have been refuted by close associates of the show, including Ben Stiller, who insisted that there have been no significant changes in the production schedule and that the target air date remains unchanged. In a tweet, he expressed appreciation for the fans' support and emphasized that the team is focused on delivering the best possible show.

Have plans for Yul Vazquez to return as Peter “Petey” Kilmer in Season 2 of the show been confirmed? Severance Season 2 plot: What will it be about?
The story of Severance revolves around Mark, a dedicated employee at Lumon Industries, specifically in the Macrodata Refinement division. After the tragic passing of his wife Gemma, he decides to participate in the highly talked-about severance program. This program essentially divides his consciousness into two parts: his "innie" retains all memories related to his work life and colleagues, while his "outie" has no recollection of anything work-related.
He is collaborating with Dylan, Irving, and "Helly R", who is a new employee struggling with the adjustment and even attempted suicide - only to have her resignation rejected, essentially trapping her.
Season 1 concluded with a dramatic cliffhanger: Helly R found out she's Helena Eagan, the Lumon heir; Irving arrived at Burt’s door after their romantic connection in Lumon, only to discover he’s already in a relationship; and the last scene showed Dylan being tackled to the ground by Milchick after allowing the “innies” to escape their own bodies for a brief time.
Ericson indicated that venturing into the outside world will impact the storyline of Severance Season 2. He mentioned that there will be an expansion of the world and viewers can expect to see more of the building within Lumon as well as more of the outside world.
In a follow-up interview with Entertainment Weekly, Erickson added: "Our emphasis will remain on the relationships among these characters, while also expanding the world. The first season centered around an ensemble at work, with a stronger focus on Mark's perspective from the outside. We wanted viewers to see Mark's life through his eyes, with no knowledge of who Helly, Irving, and Dylan are in his personal life; for him, they are only colleagues."
In Season 1, we told the story one way, but in Season 2, we plan to show the stories of different individuals who have undergone the same procedure for their own reasons. Each of them is at a different stage of healing. The biggest surprise of all comes when Mark learns that Gemma is not only alive, but is also working at Lumon as a wellness counselor under the name Ms. Casey. "She's alive," he screams as the finale ends.
In an interview with Variety, Erickson hinted at a major question that will be explored in future seasons: was Mark targeted because of his connection to Gemma, or was it the other way around? This question will be left unanswered in the current season but will be delved into in upcoming seasons. The big mystery revolves around what makes Mark special and whether it is actually about him or more about Gemma, and he was just caught up in it.
Arquette hinted to Entertainment Tonight, "Prepare to be terrified. I believe the team has put in a lot of effort and has some incredibly imaginative ideas. They have a whole universe in their minds and are slowly revealing it to us. I think it's going to be exciting and visually stunning."
