Serena Williams, 42, is getting closer to reaching her goal of fitting into a tight jean skirt by Valentino after giving birth to her second daughter, Adira, in August 2023.
On Wednesday, May 22, Williams shared a video on Instagram of herself trying on the denim skirt again. She had attempted to wear it earlier this year and was determined to see if she had made progress. In the clip, she mentioned, “I am going to try on my skirt again to see if it’s any closer than it was six weeks ago.” However, she felt like it would fit the same as before.
As she stepped into the skirt, Williams began pulling it up her legs. Unfortunately, the skirt got stuck around her bum, showing that she still had some work to do to achieve her fashion goal. Serena shares her daughters, Adira (9 months) and Olympia (6), with her husband, Alexis Ohanian.
"I'm not thrilled about it, but I'm making progress," she shared. She mentioned that she has been hitting the gym more frequently, although she admits that her eating habits have remained unchanged. She chuckled as she took off the skirt that wouldn't go past her hips, saying, "I'll just hang this back up. I feel like crying."
Even though the skirt still didn't fit, Williams pointed out that she was able to pull it up "one inch" higher on her body compared to six weeks ago.
Hey everyone, I've been putting in a lot of hard work! Look at my jean skirt, can I finally fit into it? Fans showed their support for Williams in the comments section.
One follower commented on Serena Williams' post, thanking her for demonstrating that the journey back to top-level athleticism after giving birth is a gradual process. Another follower expressed a deep connection to Serena's experience, saying they felt it resonated with them on a personal level. Some followers even playfully suggested that Serena should try sliding the skirt over her head and buttoning it around her waist.
Williams tried on the denim piece in January. She had set a goal to fit into it after giving birth. She shared, "I got this cool Valentino skirt when I was pregnant, and I was like, ‘I’m going to be able to fit this when I don’t have a belly.’" However, when she tried to put it on, she realized she couldn't fit into it.
She explained that she should have been able to fit into it by now, but she got distracted for about a month. Williams admitted, "I’m about a month behind. We’ve got a ways to go."
