Tottenham have agreed a fee with Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson.
The forward is now travelling to London for a medical before sealing the move before Friday's 11pm deadline.
Spurs will be paying over £45m for Johnson, although additional negotiations with Forest are necessary regarding the payment structure.
Forest is now prepared to advance a deal for PSV midfielder Ibrahima Sangare, who is currently in London and available for a medical examination in the capital.
The content fragment should be rewritten as follows:
Forest required the funds generated from Johnson's sale to advance their pursuit of Sangare, while still adhering to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Forest displayed reluctance in parting with Johnson and insisted on receiving an offer close to their asking price of £50m.
The East Midlanders are set to replace Johnson with Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Brentford were also keen on Johnson, while Chelsea cooled their interest in recent days.
In addition to Ansu Fati, who recently signed with Brighton, and Johan Bakayoko, who declined a transfer to Brentford to stay at PSV, Spurs also considered them before ultimately choosing Johnson as a replacement for Harry Kane. Kane, who moved to Bayern Munich earlier this summer, will be replaced by the 22-year-old.
Spurs are keen to sign a versatile forward that can play in a variety of forward positions, rather than a traditional No 9.
Versatile Johnson would provide valuable depth
We football journalist Joe Shread:Tottenham recognizes that Johnson is not a direct replacement for Harry Kane. However, they are content with this situation. Following Kane's departure to Bayern earlier this summer, the club aims to bolster their attacking options.
But the north London club are not seeking to replace the most prolific No 9 in their history with a player of a similar profile.
Spurs are looking for a flexible forward who can fulfill multiple roles in Ange Postecoglou's attacking trio, and Johnson perfectly fits that description. Last season, the Welsh international showcased his versatility by playing on the wing, in a supporting role behind the striker, and as the central forward, as Forest manager Steve Cooper frequently adjusted his tactical setup.
Johnson consistently excelled in various attacking aspects compared to his teammates, as demonstrated in the graphic below, regardless of his position. Should he make the shift from the East Midlands to Spurs, he will have the opportunity to compete with Dejan Kulusevski on the right wing,Heung-Min Son on the left wing, and Richarlison in the center.
As just 22 and with only one season in the top flight, the 19-cap international has ample potential for growth as he becomes part of Postecoglou's exciting new era.
