This iconic song has long been associated with the Mortal Kombat franchise since its inclusion in the 1995 live-action film. In Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, we follow the protagonist, Scott Pilgrim, a part-time musician and slacker in Toronto. He develops feelings for a delivery girl and realizes that in order to be with her, he must defeat her "seven evil exes". This exciting series, announced in January 2022, is produced by the renowned Japanese animation studio Science SARU (known for their work on Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!). The original series creator, Brian Lee O'Malley, takes on multiple roles in the show as the showrunner, executive producer, and writer, with the assistance of BenDavid Grabinsky.

The executive producers of the 2010 live-action Scott Pilgrim film include the director and co-writer, alongside Nira Park, Michael Bacall, Marc Platt, Jared Leboff, and Adam Seigel. Abel Góngora, a long-time Science Saru employee, directs Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, which is produced by Eunyoung Choi. The music is composed by Joseph Trapanese, and New York band Anamanaguchi, who provided music for the Scott Pilgrim video game adaptation produced by Ubisoft.
