Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Features an Exciting Hot Fuzz Cameo

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off pays tribute to Edgar Wright's filmography, featuring a delightful cameo by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost from their iconic movie, Hot Fuzz Prepare for a rollercoaster of references that will delight fans of both Scott Pilgrim and Wright's work

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off pays tribute to Edgar Wright's previous works, including the popular film Hot Fuzz. Revisiting the beloved character, Scott Pilgrim, originally brought to life by Wright, the movie is based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels. It follows a talented yet directionless bass player on his quest to win the affection of a newfound love interest amidst intense battles with her former lovers.

The anime series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, featuring the original cast, will be available on Netflix starting tomorrow. BenDavid Grabinski directs the series, while the writer and original creator O'Malley also contribute. Interestingly, Wright, the co-showrunner, has been able to seamlessly integrate elements from his previous work, Hot Fuzz, including the characters and the actors themselves.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost cameo in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

In Episodes 4 and 8 of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, you may notice a pair of studio security guards with a strangely familiar voice. That's because these guards are voiced by none other than Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the stars of Hot Fuzz.

The credits provide evidence: "Simon Pegg as Studio Security #1" and "Nick Frost as Studio Security #2." They both maintain their signature roles; Pegg's character is serious and strict, while his co-star is goofy and laid-back.

If you're unfamiliar, Hot Fuzz was a popular comedy in the late 2000s. It tells the story of Nicholas Angel, an exceptional police officer who suspects there is foul play when the villagers in a quiet Somerset village begin dying in tragic accidents. He teams up with his dim-witted colleague, Danny Butterman, to uncover the truth.

The security guard duties of the pair are somewhat less intense compared to their role as police officers. Currently, their task involves safeguarding the set of an upcoming film based on the story "Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life," a clever nod within the series itself as it essentially presents an in-universe adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
