The Manga Barcelona Festival made an exciting announcement on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. They revealed that they will be hosting two screenings and exclusive presentations of Netflix's new anime series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. This highly anticipated series will be shown at the festival from Thursday, December 7, 2023, to Monday, December 10, 2023, at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via.
Although there will be other anime series featured at the festival, the screenings and exclusive presentations of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off are definitely the main attraction. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the festival will be graced with the presence of various staff and production parties involved in the creation of the series.
The highly anticipated Scott Pilgrim anime series is scheduled to debut on Netflix worldwide on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 12 am Pacific Standard Time. Fans can look forward to seeing the original cast from the 2010 live-action Scott Pilgrim vs. the World film returning to reprise their iconic roles, with Michael Cera once again portraying the beloved character at the center of the franchise.

Attendees can also enjoy live concerts by popular anime theme song artists such as Vickeblanka, Centimillimental, Anly, Ayumia Miyazaki, and Yoko Ishida. These talented artists have contributed to renowned anime franchises like Black Clover, Given, Naruto Shippuden, Digimon, and Sailor Moon.
The festival also welcomes various guests from the anime and manga industry, including artist Hisato Murasaki and illustrator Tokyo Genso. Taking place from Thursday, December 7, 2023, to Monday, December 10, 2023, the festival will be held at the Fira Barcelona Gran Via exhibition center in Barcelona, Spain.
Set to attend the festival are Bryan Lee O’Malley, the original comic creator of Scott Pilgrim, Abel Góngora, director from Science SARU, and Kohei Sakita, the series’ animation producer. The Japan-based animation studio Science SARU is responsible for animating the series. O’Malley is writing the project and serving as executive producer, along with BenDavid Grabinski, both of whom are also listed as the showrunners.
Science SARU CEO Eunyoung Choi is credited as a producer, with Góngora serving as the director. Edgar Wright, known for directing and co-writing the 2010 film, is an executive producer. Joining Wright as executive producers are producing partner Nira Park, co-writer Michael Bacall, and Marc Platt, Jared Leboff, and Adam Seigel from Marc Platt Productions.
O’Malley’s acclaimed graphic novel series, which won the Harvey Award, was initially published from 2004 to 2010 and draws inspiration from the manga art style. O’Malley has previously provided an original cover illustration for Viz’s Shojo Beat magazine, specifically appearing in the March 2008 issue.

As an enthusiastic fan, I'm thrilled about the upcoming Scott Pilgrim anime series premiere at the Manga Barcelona Festival in December 2023. The original Scott Pilgrim vs. the World film is a cult classic, and I'm excited to see the story brought to life in a new way. The fact that the original cast is returning to reprise their roles is also a huge plus.
The Manga Barcelona Festival is going to be an amazing event for anime fans.
