Mystery Unraveled
A new School Spirits season 2 update hints at where the show could be going after that cliffhanger ending. Led by Cobra Kai's Peyton List and adapted from a graphic novel, the Paramount+ supernatural teen drama tells the story of Maddie (List), a teen girl who finds herself stuck in an afterlife purgatory.

To have any hope of moving on, Maddie decides she has to solve the mystery of who murdered her and why. The cast also includes Kristian Flores, Milo Manheim, and Spencer Macpherson. In an interview with The Direct, Manheim talked about what could be in store for School Spirits season 2.
The actor, who plays Wally Clark, explained how nothing is resolved in season 1, even though a lot is revealed. In the quote below, Manheim also addresses the progress of the show with the Hollywood strikes having come to an end:
"In the first season, you kind of figure it out, but nothing is really solved or resolved. And I think that we start going into, okay, how are we going to move forward knowing what we know? That's as specific as I can be because that's truly what I know so far. They couldn't write during the strike. Yeah, they're just getting to it. But the conversation is open. And I will keep you posted when I learn more stuff."
The Aftermath of Season 1's Cliffhanger
In the School Spirits season 1 finale, it’s revealed that Maddie didn’t die at all. Her body is instead possessed by Janet. The show does not reveal what Janet looks like, but the episode concludes with Janet out in the world. She deliberately removes Maddie’s ‘missing’ posters when she sees them. From the little shown, it looks like Janet enjoys living in Maddie’s body and does not plan on stopping anytime soon, which opens up a fresh source of conflict.
It’s not clear how the Maddie-Janet switch happened and why Maddie didn’t realize it. The show cleverly never takes a side on whether the lead character is dead, only that she believes she is and that she has to solve what happened to her. One theory is that Maddie's spirit is what's actually killed due to the tumult in her life, especially with her mother. That makes it easier for Janet to take over Maddie's body in a vulnerable moment. School Spirits, created by Megan Trinrud and Nate Trinrud, with Oliver Goldstick as showrunner, has another lingering question. There's the matter of Mr. Martin (Josh Zuckerman). The sinister surprise that he's conducting experiments on the ghosts has yet to cross over.
What's Next for School Spirits
With the show's first eight episodes streaming on Netflix in the U.S. and production expected to begin in 2024, the series could return with a big boost. The update hints at a potential aftermath following the cliffhanger ending of season 1, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the unraveling of the mysterious events in the upcoming season. As the conversation around the progress of School Spirits season 2 continues, there's a growing curiosity about where the story will lead and how the unresolved questions from the first season will be addressed. The anticipation is high as fans await the next chapter in the intriguing and supernatural world of School Spirits.
