Russell Wilson, Ciara's husband, continues to be a topic of discussion for Future even after their breakup almost a decade ago. The 39-year-old rapper criticizes Wilson in his latest track, "Turn Yo Clic Up," which features a collaboration with Quavo. In the song's second verse, Future opens with the lyrics, "I obtained success outside of my original field / Disregard Russell."
Future hasn't been reluctant to express his opinions about Ciara's romantic life after they ended their relationship in 2014 amidst speculation of his unfaithfulness. (Before their separation, the ex-couple became engaged in 2013 and had their son, Future Zahir, the following year.)
In 2015, Ciara, who is now 37, moved on with Wilson, and they exchanged vows a year later. Their family grew with the arrival of their daughter, Sienna, in April 2017, and their son, Win, in 2020.
Over the years, Future expressed disdain towards his ex-fiancé's marriage by openly criticizing the professional athlete. In a 2019 interview on Apple Music's Beats 1, the songwriter stated, "He simply follows her every command. It seems as though I'm completely void of emotions."
Furthermore, Future voiced his disapproval of Wilson's decision to let Ciara publicly address their past relationship. (Previously, Ciara had called out Future for discussing her personal life on social media.)
"He is not the kind of man who should be in that position. You should not be telling her, 'Hey, calm down with that on the internet. Don't even talk to him. I am your husband! You better not even mention Future's name!'" he continued. "If it were me, she wouldn't even dare to mention his name. She would know that. She wouldn't even bring up her exes' names. Don't give that nonsense any attention. It's all about me. I am taking care of everything."
During that same month, Future provided further explanation regarding his comments about the couple.
"We don't have any problems. It's a social media issue. No, I don't hate [Russell]. It's definitely not like that," the artist explained on his Freebandz radio show. "It was just the way we handled things regarding Baby Future. I don't have anything against [Wilson] and I'm sincerely happy for them."
In response to Future's controversial remarks, Ciara seemingly responded with a Instagram post that said, "Rise Above."
Wilson subtly acknowledged the drama by sharing a heartwarming photo on Instagram. In the picture, his daughter, Sienna, can be seen enjoying quality time with her half-brother. The caption simply read, "All that matters. #Love," emphasizing the importance of love in their family.
