Kim Cattrall's unexpected appearance in season 2 of And Just Like That surprised not only Sex and the City fans but also Sarita Choudhury, who portrays Seema Patel. The Homeland alum, 56, expressed her shock and revealed that she discovered the news at the same time as the rest of the world. Choudhury recalled reading the announcement and being taken aback, exclaiming, "What?! How did I not know this?"
While the Green Knight actress finds the cameo to be "extremely exciting," she is still uncertain about whether the small role will evolve into something more significant. "It's not about hoping or not hoping," she clarified. "I am genuinely curious about how a mere cameo can lead to something greater. It plants a seed of possibility in everyone's mind. Can a cameo alone make a difference? I'm not sure."
Cattrall, who is 66 years old, gained fame for her role as publicity maven Samantha Jones in the original run of the SATC series and the two subsequent movies. However, she did not reprise her role for the revival series' first season. Last year, the Mannequin actress stated that she was never approached with an offer to appear in AJLT.
Sarah Jessica Parker had mentioned earlier that she would honor her former co-star's decision and refrain from inviting her back for AJLT. In the reboot, Samantha's character is portrayed as residing in London and having a distant connection with Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte.

Last month, news emerged that Cattrall would be making a guest appearance in the final episode of the upcoming second season. As reported by Variety, Samantha will have a short phone conversation with Carrie. It is worth noting that Cattrall filmed the scene separately, without any interaction with Parker or showrunner Michael Patrick King.

Choudhury finds Cattrall's role to be enjoyable, despite its small size. The Madam Secretary alum is excited about the new episodes, describing them as "very energetic" and hoping that viewers can feel that energy as well. She wishes for fans to find inspiration in this season, encouraging them to go out, date, dance, and break free from the post-COVID confinement. According to her, they have had enough rest and it's time to get moving again.
Season 2 of And Just Like That premieres on Max Thursday, June 22.
