Sarah Ferguson is maintaining a positive attitude while fighting cancer.
During the annual amfAR Gala in France, Ferguson, 64, shared with People on Thursday, May 23, that she is feeling good. She mentioned that she feels like she has control over the cancer rather than the other way around. "I've managed to put cancer in the corner," she said.
Ferguson emphasized the importance of being vigilant about health. She encouraged others to regularly check for breast cancer and melanoma, stressing the significance of being open and honest about any health concerns.
She continued, "I think many people are scared to discuss these topics. I am proud of my mastectomy and my breasts, and I am happy to talk about it."
In June 2023, it was confirmed that the Duchess of York had early-stage breast cancer. She shared on Instagram in December that she had successfully overcome the illness after having a mastectomy. Just one month later, she revealed that she had also been diagnosed with skin cancer.
Ferguson's representative shared that the Duchess had some moles removed and tested while she was having reconstructive surgery after her mastectomy. Unfortunately, one of the moles was found to be cancerous. Despite this new diagnosis, the Duchess is staying positive and in good spirits.
During an interview on This Morning in the U.K., Princess Beatrice, Ferguson's oldest daughter, mentioned that her mother has received an all-clear from the doctors. Ferguson has two daughters, Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, with her ex-husband Prince Andrew.
During Ferguson's melanoma battle, her royal relatives King Charles III and Princess Kate Middleton were also diagnosed with forms of cancer. Charles, 75, shared his diagnosis in February, with Kate, 42, following suit a month later. (Specific details about their diagnoses have not been disclosed by either the king or Kate).
Both Charles and the Princess of Wales, who is married to Prince William, are currently undergoing treatment and have put their public duties on hold. Charles returned to his duties on April 30, while Kate is still recovering privately. In a video announcement in March, the princess mentioned that she plans to resume public engagements once she receives medical clearance.
Ferguson is showing her support by emphasizing the importance of family unity. She believes that supporting each other is crucial in life. Additionally, she values forgiveness, both of oneself and others.
