Several senior royals have stepped in to take over King Charles III's duties while he undergoes treatment for cancer. Buckingham Palace revealed in January that the King needed a procedure for an enlarged prostate. However, during his hospital stay, doctors discovered another health issue, specifically a form of cancer.
Royal reporter Omid Scobie revealed in February that Charles' diagnosis was not prostate cancer. However, the family has not disclosed the specific type of cancer or the stage it is at.
Charles temporarily stepped back from his public duties to focus on his cancer treatments. Although he has made some public appearances since then, he has had to reduce his workload. In his absence, other royal family members have been stepping in to represent him at various events.
Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward are all able to represent Charles at royal events, according to BBC. Prince Harry, Prince Andrew, and Princess Beatrice are also Counselors of State, but they do not actively participate in royal duties.
See below for a list of royals who have substituted for King Charles III:
Queen Camilla
Camilla initially stepped up, but she then took a break from her duties.
Charles noticed that Camilla was putting in too much effort and feeling overwhelmed with worry while also trying to take care of him, a source shared with us recently.
According to the insider, it was a joint decision between Camilla and Charles for her to take a break. "They both agreed that she needed to take a week off to avoid overworking herself," the source explained.
Camila filled in for Charles at Westminster Abbey for the annual Commonwealth Day service. Even though Charles didn't attend, he did record a message for U.K. citizens to mark the occasion.
Next, Camila will be taking over for the King at the Maundy Service in Worcester Cathedral on March 28. During the service, she will be handing out the Royal Maundy to 75 men and 75 women from various parts of England who have shown dedication to the church.
