New information regarding Rory McIlroy's divorce has come to light through court papers acquired by the Belfast Telegraph. The documents, obtained on Sunday, May 26, reveal that McIlroy, 35, reportedly enlisted the help of a private investigator to deliver divorce papers to Erica Stoll at their residence in Jupiter, Florida. (McIlroy filed for divorce in Palm Beach County.)
Stoll, who is 36 years old, received McIlroy's paperwork from Carl Woods on May 13. Woods, a former Palm Beach police officer, now operates the private firm CW Services & Associates.
At the time, McIlroy was in North Carolina participating in the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour. He ended up winning the championship.
McIlroy expressed his gratitude for the support he has received over the years, mentioning how the fans have witnessed his growth in the sport. He emphasized his fond memories of winning at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte at the age of 20 and reflected on his current age of 35. Despite online rumors, McIlroy clarified that he is not dating CBS Sports' Amanda Balionis.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, McIlroy signed his motion on May 9 before submitting it to Stoll. Stoll has a deadline of 20 days to respond to the filing.
"A phone call will not protect you," the summons from Stoll stated in the documents. It is important to submit a written response, including the case number and names of the parties, if you wish for the court to consider your perspective. Failure to file a response on time could result in losing the case, and your wages, money, and property may be seized without further notice from the court.
In addition, the summons mentioned other legal obligations. It is recommended to seek advice from an attorney promptly. If you do not have an attorney, you can contact an attorney referral service or a legal aid office, which can be found in the phone book.
There have been no new developments regarding the couple's divorce since the May 13 documents were last updated in the Palm Beach County court database.
Both McIlroy and Stoll, who are both seeking joint custody of their 3-year-old daughter Poppy, have not made any public statements about the recent court filings.
McIlroy and Stoll were married for seven years before McIlroy stated their marriage was "irretrievably broken" in the documents. It was also mentioned that they had a prenup agreement in place.

Rory McIlroy's spokesperson informed the Irish Star that a divorce has been filed. The communication team emphasized Rory's wish for a respectful and amicable process during this challenging time. No additional comments will be made by Rory.
According to a source, Stoll was feeling lonely in their marriage. The insider shared in May that Erica understood the demands of his profession when they got married. However, after they had Poppy, things took a different turn and Erica's focus shifted towards their child. She was often not present for his tournaments as she prioritized spending time with Poppy.
McIlroy is currently participating in the PGA Tour. He recently competed in the PGA Championship and the Charles Schwab Challenge in May, finishing at T12 and T32, respectively. Next up, he will be competing in the Canadian Open starting on Thursday, May 30.

The recent developments in Rory McIlroy's divorce proceedings shed light on the complexities of their separation. The revelation that McIlroy hired a private investigator to deliver divorce papers highlights the sensitive and potentially adversarial nature of the situation. While both parties have expressed a desire for an amicable process, the legal documents suggest a level of estrangement. The mention of a prenuptial agreement further indicates that the financial and property aspects of the divorce are being carefully considered.
McIlroy's focus on his golf career during the divorce proceedings is also noteworthy. Despite the personal challenges he faces, he has maintained his competitive form, winning the Wells Fargo Championship and performing well in subsequent tournaments. His dedication to the sport demonstrates his resilience and ability to compartmentalize his life. However, it remains to be seen how the divorce proceedings will ultimately affect his mental and emotional well-being in the long run.
