Rory McIlroy hugged Amanda Balionis after being interviewed by her at the RBC Canadian Open, sparking dating rumors.

Balionis conducted the interview with the professional golfer on Sunday, June 2. Following the interview, TMZ reported on Monday, June 3 that the two shared a hug. A photo was posted by the outlet showing McIlroy, 35, embracing Balionis, 38, under a tent surrounded by lighting equipment.

On May 29, we revealed that McIlroy and Balionis are not in a romantic relationship, but rather have a professional connection.

McIlroy officially filed for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll in Florida on May 13, sparking rumors that he may be dating Balionis. There has been no comment from either McIlroy or Balionis regarding these speculations. (It is worth noting that Balionis married football coach Bryn Renner in 2022, though it is unclear if they are still together.)

Balionis, who has been covering golf for years, had the opportunity to interview McIlroy on May 12. The interview took place after McIlroy emerged victorious at the Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina.

During the interview, McIlroy shared his thoughts on the win, saying, “This was just another great day to add to all the rest of them.” He also expressed gratitude towards the fans, mentioning, “I feel like these people have watched me grow up from winning here [at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte] as a 20-year-old to being the ripe old age of 35 now. They’ve sort of seen my progression through my career and I’ve been lucky enough to win here four times.”

The next day, McIlroy filed paperwork to divorce Stoll, 36, after seven years of marriage. He mentioned in his petition that their relationship was “irretrievably broken.” They have a prenup in place and a 3-year-old daughter named Poppy.

The golfer’s representatives confirmed the court filing to the Irish Star on May 14, emphasizing his wish for a respectful and amicable process during this difficult time. McIlroy will not be making any additional comments.

A source revealed to Us that Stoll was feeling lonely in their marriage. According to the insider, Rory was not easy to be married to. Erica understood the challenges that came with his profession, but after they had Poppy, everything shifted. She became more focused on their daughter and was often not present for most of his tournaments.

McIlroy, originally from Northern Ireland, is currently participating in the 2024 PGA Tour. He achieved a T12 placement at the PGA Championship and a T4 finish at the Canadian Open. In 2019, McIlroy made his professional tournament debut at the Canadian Open, where he emerged victorious and took home the prize money at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ontario.

Recently, McIlroy shared his thoughts on how playing golf provides him with a break from the routine of daily life.

"When speaking to reporters after his Wells Fargo victory, he shared that spending four or five hours a day on the golf course allows him to escape from everything else happening in the world. He mentioned that he enjoys the escape and has a talent for keeping different aspects of his life separate. Surprisingly, he tends to play his best golf when he has a lot going on."
