Robin Williams, a beloved comic actor, has a lesser-known movie now available on Disney Plus, surprising some fans. Renowned for his roles in Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, and Good Will Hunting, as well as his voice role in Disney’s Aladdin, he continues to be a beloved talent.
Even after his passing in 2014, Williams’ impact endures, with his work even being featured in a short film commemorating the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Studios. Despite this, some fans have expressed their surprise and disbelief on X/Twitter at one of Robin Williams’ "insane" films now being added to Disney Plus.
“Insane” Robin Williams movie is on Disney Plus
Robin Williams’ 2009 movie World’s Greatest Dad is now available to stream on Disney Plus – and some fans cannot deal with how “insane” it is.
If you haven't seen this movie, there is no earthly way to convey how fucking insane it is that it's on Disney+. pic.twitter.com/d4G6GbMEDD

The official synopsis for the film describes Lance's journey from aspiring writer to high school poetry teacher. Overcoming rejection and personal tragedy, he gets the chance to pursue his dreams. One fan expressed disbelief at the movie's availability on Disney+, saying, "If you haven't seen this movie, there is no earthly way to convey how shocking it is that it's on Disney+."
“Is that the one with the chair thing?” asked one user.
“Maybe? There is a big crucial scene with a character sitting in a chair, but I’m not sure if that's what you'd call a ‘chair thing,’” the initial poster replied.
“I just spit out my coffee. The person who uploaded this clearly did NOT watch it first,” commented a third user, with a fourth adding, “Read the plot summary. That is dark!”
Disney Plus has delved into darker territory before, featuring movies like Notes on a Scandal, I, Daniel Blake, and Fish Tank alongside the Robin Williams film. World’s Greatest Dad holds an 88% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, with a 67% audience score.
Goldthwait's film may have a controversial title, but it's worth watching. According to Derek Malcolm of the London Evening Standard, it's a comedy that delves into the uniquely American tendency to turn the deceased into legends, and it's more incisive than most.
Brian Eggert of Deep Focus Review also praised "World's Greatest Dad," attributing its tender and heartfelt nature to Williams' performance. Despite the unconventional plot and wild scenarios, Eggert views the film as a charming indie comedy.
