Jimmy Kimmel jokingly asked Robert Downey Jr. if his gesture was too obvious or if it resembled a drug motion. Kimmel then praised Downey's looks and talent, mentioning his numerous awards. He humorously questioned if Downey's speech was actually an acceptance speech or if he was just showing off his unique sense of humor.

Kimmel continued his roast by highlighting Downey's journey, mentioning that less than 20 years ago, things weren't going so well for him. He even joked about Downey playing the villain in a movie where Tim Allen transforms into a dog. Kimmel humorously suggested casting Messi, the dog from Anatomy of a Fall, as Tim Allen in a potential remake.

Despite the jokes, Downey handled the situation gracefully, motioning for Kimmel to move on. In an interview with Esquire, Downey shared that he took the jokes in good humor.

Robert Downey Jr., known for his role as Iron Man, openly faced addiction issues in the early stages of his career. Despite several arrests and stints in treatment programs, he began his journey to sobriety in 2003. Downey has acknowledged his wife, Susan Downey, for her support in his recovery and continued success.

During his acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, Downey made sure to mention his wife Susan, who has been a crucial part of his journey towards sobriety.

"I want to express my gratitude to my challenging childhood and The Academy, in that particular sequence," Downey playfully remarked. "I also want to give a shoutout to my wife, Susan Downey, who I jokingly refer to as my veterinarian. She rescued me when I was like a wild, untamed animal, and she nurtured me back to life. That's the reason I'm standing here today."

Furthermore, Downey emphasized the significance of his role in Oppenheimer.

"I have a little secret to share with you all. This job was more important to me than I was to it. I am standing here today as a better person because of the experiences it has given me," he shared. "The work we do is meaningful, and the things we create are truly important."

As he expressed his gratitude to each member of his team, Downey also made sure to give a special shoutout to his entertainment lawyer, Tom Hanson, with whom he has had a professional relationship for 40 years. "For half of those years, he was busy trying to get me insured and bailing me out. Thanks, buddy," Downey joked.
