Yesterday, Apple made a flurry of announcements including the highly anticipated Vision Pro headset and a significant update to the Apple Watch. In addition, the company confirmed that AirTag access sharing will now be possible, a feature that has been available on other Bluetooth tracker networks like SmartThings and Tile. This new development is a long-awaited change for Apple's Find My network, which did not offer this capability since its debut in 2021.
Apple has announced that AirTag can now be shared with up to five people, enabling friends and family to locate an item in Find My. This feature allows all members in a group to view the location of an item, play a sound, and use Precision Finding to locate a shared AirTag when in close proximity. What's more, this sharing functionality is not limited to AirTag, as it works with all other Find My network accessories, including Eufy SmartTrack Link and Chipolo CARD. This sharing feature is particularly useful for couples and families to keep track of each other's belongings and can also come in handy when lending an item to a friend and wanting to access its location remotely.
The option to share Find My devices with other people is coming in the iOS 17 update, expected to arrive later this year.
