Revolutionary Skins That Overwatch 2 Failed to Deliver

Wrecking Ball's skins in Overwatch 2 present a golden opportunity to expand beyond the current animal theme, unleashing a plethora of captivating options that will truly bring this hero's identity to life

With an Overwatch 2 roster filled with heroes boasting diverse and captivating designs, as well as a plethora of cosmetics that push the boundaries of their base appearances, fans of visually intriguing characters have ample reasons to revel in this hero shooter. From futuristic cowboys and cyborg ninjas to malevolent scientists and brilliant gorillas, Blizzard's hero shooter boasts a cast that is as aesthetically distinctive as they are mechanically. However, the hero in Overwatch 2 with the most unparalleled qualities has surprisingly been limited when it comes to skin options.

When contemplating the Overwatch 2 heroes with the most exceptional mechanics, a few individuals immediately spring to mind. D.Va's ability to transition between two forms adds intrigue, Doomfist feels like a character plucked directly from a fighting game, and Lucio's capacity to heal through the power of music while traversing walls delivers an undeniably unique experience. Nevertheless, it is Wrecking Ball who stands apart from anything else in the FPS genre, as his hamster ball mech introduces vastly different mechanics, even if his skins tend to play it safe.

Wrecking Ball’s Overwatch 2 Skins Should Embrace Other Animals

Blizzard should consider taking inspiration from the last two skins, as they should explore more creativity when designing Hammond himself. Overwatch 2 has always maintained the principle that a hero's silhouette should remain distinct regardless of the skin being worn. This ensures fair competition, with players always able to identify their opponents. However, Wrecking Ball's pilot could deviate from this rule to a certain extent.

In addition to the Wrecking Ball mech, Blizzard has the freedom to experiment with the appearance of Hammond, the small furry pilot. This opens up a plethora of possibilities for future cosmetics, as the design of Hammond can be adapted to various creatures from the animal kingdom. For instance, instead of just dressing up as a bee, Hammond could be completely transformed into different critters. One idea is to redesign him as a small dog, showcasing man's best friend. Another option is to pay homage to the scrapped Jetpack Cat hero concept by creating a cat-themed Hammond skin, with Brigitte's cat Mitzi as the inspiration for the outfit. To complete the theme, the mech could be designed as a giant yarn ball or mouse toy.

Blizzard should consider incorporating more critters into Hammond's skins, as the current hamster design for non-canon cosmetics seems a bit silly and lacks depth. For instance, a mouse-themed skin could feature Hammond rolling around in a mech made of cheese, adding a touch of cuteness to the character. Imagining a highlight intro, we can picture the mousey Hammond happily chewing on his delectable mech before glancing up at the camera. Additionally, other animal-themed designs could include a rabbit version of Hammond situated inside a carrot-shaped mech, a Winnie the Pooh-inspired design with a golden bear controlling a tree-themed mech, and a kangaroo design where Hammond resides within a larger kangaroo mech, symbolizing the animal's pouch. It would be exciting to see Blizzard explore these creative possibilities and expand the range of Hammond's skins. Players can currently enjoy Overwatch 2 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
