Sony has recently rolled out a system software update for PlayStation 5 in August 2023. Since its initial launch in November 2020, the PS5 has received multiple software updates aimed at enhancing its performance. These updates have introduced various new features and enhanced stability.
Notable additions include support for M.2 SSDs, allowing users to expand their storage capacity and install more games. Moreover, features like VRR and 1440p output have been incorporated into the PS5 through these updates, reflecting Sony's ongoing efforts to refine the system. However, the latest update released by Sony does not introduce any new features or significant improvements.
As reported by gaming news source Push Square, the latest update for the PS5 console, version 23.01-07.61.00.00, is now available for download. Gamers will need to allocate 1.15 GB of storage space to install this update. Similar to previous updates, this new software version aims to enhance the system's overall performance. While no new features have been added, it is vital for players to install this update in order to regain access to the PlayStation Network (PSN).
Version 23.01-07.60.00 was launched for the PS5 console in July 2023, bringing enhancements to its stability and performance. Similar updates have been previously released, including one in June that also improved stability. This latest update joins Sony's ongoing efforts to enhance the console's stability.
PS5 owners should be aware that Sony has plans to release a major update in the future that will introduce significant features. For instance, the upcoming PS5 update will incorporate haptic feedback into the console's menu and increase the M.2 SSD capacity to 8 TB. Additionally, PlayStation fans will have the option to disable the system's startup beep. These features are currently in the beta stage, with the official update expected to be released at a later date.
While the forthcoming major update brings about some useful changes, PS5 users are eagerly anticipating the availability of themes on the console. Themes were highly prevalent in the PS4 generation, often being given as pre-order bonuses by studios. Some themes featured static images, while others offered animated backgrounds, music, and unique icons. Considering the high demand for themes among users, it remains to be seen if Sony will ever introduce this feature to the PS5.
