The Last of Us Part 1 PC port has achieved an impressive sales milestone, as reported by Sony. The franchise's already extensive popularity was further boosted in recent months by the conclusion of the highly anticipated HBO TV series, which was swiftly followed by the PC release of The Last of Us Part 1. Despite being available for less than two months, the game has already demonstrated promising sales figures for Sony.
Initially released in 2013, The Last of Us Part 1 arrived on PC on March 28th as one of the most eagerly anticipated titles for the platform in 2023. It is worth noting, however, that the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1 has not been without its issues for the PlayStation maker. The game was beset with numerous glitches from its launch, leading to a series of patches being issued by the developer to address them. Despite ongoing work to resolve these issues, The Last of Us PC port has already made a significant impact among Sony's portfolio of PC ports.
In the most recent Games and Network Services presentation, Sony reports that The Last of Us Part 1 has generated $15.5 million in revenue on PC as of April 23, 2023, just under a month after its release. Despite selling over 368,000 copies, the initial reception of the PC port may have impacted its sales. However, Herman Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, acknowledges that "PC has become a significant part" of Sony's business and credits The Last of Us PC port as one of the contributing factors.
In addition to The Last of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered has also made significant strides since its release on PC. Insomniac's title has already broken sales records, with Marvel's Spider-Man on PC surpassing God of War's opening week sales. According to Sony's latest data, Marvel's Spider-Man has sold over 1.5 million copies on PC, generating $52 million in revenue.
Interestingly, Sony's report coincides with the highly anticipated May 24 PlayStation Showcase event where fans are eagerly anticipating teasers for several high-profile titles such as Spider-Man 2, Death Stranding 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, and possibly details on The Last of Us multiplayer project. As PlayStation fans gear up for an exciting year in 2023, it will be interesting to see how Sony navigates the ever-growing appeal for its titles in both the console and PC space. It's worth noting that The Last of Us Part 1 is already available on both PC and PS5.
