Activision's unveiling of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has provided fans with new insights into the campaign, zombies, and multiplayer mode. Among the exciting updates are a revolutionary combat and movement-based mechanic, as well as two customizable loadout features. This wave of information was disclosed during the Shadow Siege live event in Call of Duty: Warzone 2, which not only revealed the thrilling conclusion to the rebooted Modern Warfare trilogy but also established the game's narrative.
In the world of Call of Duty, loadouts have always played a significant role, allowing players to personalize their characters with a vast array of weapons, lethal and tactical gadgets, and perks. Building upon this foundation, the development team at Infinity Ward has introduced the Gunsmith feature, an enhanced version of the standard loadout system. With Gunsmith, players have unparalleled freedom to customize every aspect of their weapons, from trigger types to magazine sizes. This innovative feature was further refined in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, enabling players to unlock attachments that can be used across different weapons of the same receiver type, thereby maximizing the benefits of their gameplay.
With Gunsmith taking on a greater role in the Call of Duty series, Activision aims to enhance its effectiveness by introducing exciting new features like Evolving Loadouts and After-Market Parts. As stated in the official blog post, After-Market Parts will empower players to "construct" their ideal weapon by rearranging attachments and modifying movement without sacrificing damage output. Moreover, After-Market Parts will provide fresh progression paths and challenges, offering corresponding rewards. Additionally, Evolved Loadouts will enable players to personalize their characters' gloves, tactical vests, boots, and more, allowing for precise optimization during combat. Although the post lacks specific details, players can likely draw comparisons to the exclusive custom 3-plate vests in the DMZ that provide enhanced functionalities.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to introduce a unique gameplay mechanic known as Tac-Stance, which seamlessly combines movement and combat. According to the blog post, Tac-Stance provides a balanced approach between aim-down sight accuracy and hipfire, allowing for fast-paced, aggressive gameplay in close-quarters situations. Additionally, players will be able to utilize Tac-Stance while sliding, and switch between different stances effortlessly while aiming down sights.
In addition to these exciting new features, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also offer Open Combat Missions, an expansive Zombies map set in an open world, and the return of classic gameplay elements like slide canceling and reload canceling. Fans can also look forward to the inclusion of 16 classic maps and the ability to vote for their preferred maps. Activision has promised to release more information about these features and the extensive content selection in the near future.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases November 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
