Blizzard has once again allowed for the inclusion of Uniques in Helltide Chests in Diablo 4, but players will no longer be able to specifically farm for certain armor and weapon slots. On July 6, an incident occurred in which numerous players received Uber Uniques, the game's rarest and most powerful items. Classes like the Barbarian or Sorcerer in Diablo 4 lack class-specific Unique Helms, prompting many players to focus on farming Helltide Chests in hopes of obtaining a Harlequin Crest with a favorable 0.5% drop rate.
To address the situation, the developers promptly disabled Uber Uniques in Diablo 4 to prevent further acquisition of Harlequin Crests. As a result, the six rarest Uniques were no longer obtainable from any source. Patch 1.0.4 was introduced in order to make farming Helltide Chests more appealing, but the method through which players optimized their approach to acquiring an Uber Unique was not in line with Blizzard's intentions, although it may not have come as a surprise in hindsight.
Instead of being able to specifically farm for Uniques in Diablo 4's Helltide Chests, a hotfix has been implemented allowing Uniques to once again drop from both Mystery Chests and targeted chests. However, the targeted chests now draw from the entire item type pool, removing the ability for players to specifically target farm Uniques. This change has sparked controversy, as the Uber Uniques in Diablo 4 are incredibly rare and highly sought after. Many fans believe that the loot grind in Diablo 4 is overly difficult, and the game's emphasis on the journey to obtain gear rather than pushing higher levels of content has been a point of contention for some. The endgame in Diablo 4 is seen as lacking direction by many in the community.
Despite the inability to target farm Uniques through Helltide Chests in Diablo 4, players can still expect them to drop, increasing the value of Helltides in the endgame. Additionally, Blizzard will not undo the acquisition of Uber Uniques obtained during the July 6 incident, allowing players to retain their Harlequin Crests. While Diablo 4's itemization could benefit from improvements, the upcoming features in Season of the Malignant may enhance the excitement of the gameplay grind.
Diablo 4 is playable on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
