Reservation Dogs' Exciting Future Unveiled Even After the Show's Finale

Reservation Dogs' Future Shines Bright Despite Series Finale – A promising update to uplift fans' spirits

Summary

Reservation Dogs season 3 may have aired its finale, but co-creator Sterlin Harjo is optimistic about the show's future, with plans for a feature film and spinoffs.

According to Harjo, the show's finale was an ideal conclusion and has contributed to the strengthening of television through its talented young cast and underrepresented narratives. Reservation Dogs has successfully drawn A-list actors for guest appearances and there are possibilities of its future continuation, potentially with a focus on supporting characters and an expanded universe.

Looking ahead, Sterlin Harjo, co-creator of Reservation Dogs, expressed optimism for the show's future in a recent interview with Variety. Harjo revealed his plans for a potential return of "Rez Dogs," which could include a feature film and various spinoff ideas centered around beloved characters like Uncle Brownie, Bucky, and the Deer Lady.

I do have a desire to pursue spin-offs. I'm already in the process of exploring possibilities. Once we made the announcement about the conclusion, I immediately started thinking, "I believe I have a fantastic concept for a feature film, a return of the Rez Dogs." So, I'm already devising plans. However, it was necessary for this particular story to come to an end. This story revolved around themes of loss, grief, and the transition into adulthood. It doesn't mean we can't revisit it in the future. It's just that, for now, there isn't a direct continuation. It could certainly make a comeback, but it would take on a different form. And that will be in the future.

Reservation Dogs Ended On Its Own Terms

The announcement came in June that Reservation Dogs would conclude with season 3. Harjo took to social media to share the news, stating that it felt like the most fitting creative choice. Harjo, along with producers and co-creator Waititi, believed that the finale served as the perfect conclusion. Now that the finale has premiered, it is evident that Reservation Dogs has greatly enriched television as a medium.

The comedy's young ensemble has emerged as talented up-and-coming stars, effortlessly delivering uproarious laughter while also expertly portraying complex emotions. The comedy excelled in both aspects, and even provided opportunities for seasoned actors like Zahn McClarnon. Following his recurring role on Reservation Dogs, McClarnon has secured roles in two Marvel projects and is now the lead in his own series, the AMC crime drama Dark Winds. Apart from being recognized as one of the best comedies in recent years, Reservation Dogs also showcased exceptional talent by telling unique stories not commonly seen in popular culture.

Perhaps due to its esteemed reputation, Reservation Dogs has attracted notable actors who eagerly make cameos in the show, giving the series an impressive history. This may contribute to the likelihood of the series returning in some capacity, potentially focusing on supporting characters and expanding the "Rez Dog" universe. However, even if that possibility never materializes, the series leaves behind a meaningful legacy.
