Highlights
Hand Guns in Remnant 2 are not just a secondary option; they fill various roles depending on the player's build and can be more useful than Long Guns.
The Hand Guns in Remnant 2 that are most widely used and highly regarded include the Meridian, Rupture Cannon, Bolt Driver, Sureshot, Tech 22, MP60-R, Cube Gun, Sorrow, Double Barrel, and Enigma.
Each individual Hand Gun possesses distinctive traits and benefits, including the ability to control crowds, deliver long-range shots, unleash bursts of fire, require charging time, offer high-risk, high-reward damage potential, provide unlimited ammunition, and inflict damage on multiple targets.
Remnant 2 offers a wide variety of weapons, including three distinct categories: Melee Weapons, Long Guns, and Hand Guns. While Hand Guns may initially seem like a secondary option when the Long Gun runs out of ammo, they actually play a significant role.
Similar to Long Guns, Hand Guns serve various purposes depending on the player's build. In certain scenarios, they can even surpass the usefulness of Long Guns. However, this is contingent upon the player's build and how they optimize it to complement their chosen Hand Gun. Now, let's explore the most popular and highly regarded Hand Guns among Remnant 2 players and discuss their exceptional benefits.
10 Meridian
At the bottom of the rankings is the Meridian, a weapon notorious for its complex unlock puzzles. To acquire it, players must locate the Flooded Sewer event in Losomn's sewer maps, such as the Great Sewer or Tiller's Rest. They need to defeat the ooze enemy that blocks the large pipe and then patiently wait for about an hour and a half in real-time for the room to fill with water. This allows the Traveler to navigate a series of platforms to reach another pipe where the Meridian is found.
Once players successfully obtain this weapon, it becomes highly enjoyable to use, especially for crowd control situations with multiple enemies. However, in multiplayer mode, the Meridian can be quite disruptive. The explosions can potentially stagger nearby teammates or, at worst, even knock them off ledges.
9 Rupture Cannon
The Rupture Cannon, the latest addition to Hand Guns, stands out as a highly futuristic weapon. It rivals only a few other N'Erudian weapons, such as the Pulse Rifle or the Plasma Cutter, in terms of its sci-fi aesthetic.
Unlike regular bullets, the Rupture Cannon unleashes a spread of energy-based projectiles with each pull of the trigger. Surprisingly, despite being labeled as a shotgun pistol, these shots reach an impressive range, surpassing what one would typically expect from a shotgun in gaming. In summary, the Rupture Cannon secures its place as one of the most reliable options available.
8 Bolt Driver
The Bolt Driver, found in Yaesha, may appear to be a semi-machine gun resembling those on Earth, but it actually utilizes Pan crystals as projectiles instead of bullets. To obtain it, players must play the alternate or 'secret' song on the Water Harp in The Forbidden Grove of Yaesha, located just outside the Ravager's Lair. While there is an in-game method to uncovering this secret song by listening to the Flautist, most players opt to search online for the solution.
Shifting our focus to the Hand Gun, this particular weapon requires some getting used to due to its unique combination of charge time and burst fire, setting it apart from other Handguns. However, once players become accustomed to firing the Bolt Driver, they will quickly realize its exceptional potential for Weakspot damage and reliable overall DPS, making the initial adjustment well worth it.
7 Sureshot
Introducing the Sureshot, a Hand Gun that stands in stark contrast to the Rupture Cannon. Unlike its counterpart, the Sureshot is a single-shot weapon with the potential for high-risk, high-reward damage and a relatively swift reload.
Creating a powerful build with the Sureshot (or the Crossbow, if discovered) is remarkably straightforward by utilizing Reload-based Amulets, Rings, or other gear that activate specific effects when a portion of the magazine is expended. Notably, the Shiny Hog Lure and the Tightly Wound Coil are just a couple of examples that instantly elevate the Sureshot to a weapon of utmost necessity.
6 Tech 22
The Tech 22 stands out among the guns in Remnant 2 for its exceptional firing experience. This is not to undermine the quality of other guns; Gunfire Games' developers truly excelled in crafting guns that feel impactful and gratifying to players.
Nevertheless, the Tech 22's visual display of unleashing a torrent of bullets, accompanied by the powerful sound and noticeable yet subtle recoil, makes this Hand Gun an absolute delight to use.
5 MP60-R
If you're familiar with Gunfire Games' previous game, Remnant: From the Ashes, you're probably already acquainted with the MP60-R Hand Gun. In Remnant, it was referred to as the Submachine Gun, but in both games, players can discover this weapon while exploring the Ward 13 hub area.
Putting in a little effort to obtain the MP60-R is definitely worthwhile, as it proves to be an excellent choice for a Hand Gun. It serves as a viable alternative to the Tech 22, catering to players who may not prefer that particular firearm. The MP60-R sacrifices a bit of fire rate and accuracy for increased damage per shot and a larger magazine. Regardless of personal preferences, it's evident that the MP60-R is a valuable weapon, especially during the early stages of the game when resources like Scrap are scarce.
4 Cube Gun
On higher difficulty modes like Nightmare or Apocalypse, ensuring players have enough ammo to reach the next checkpoint or defeat the boss is a significant challenge. Regardless of the difficulty, players tend to frequently run out of ammo during multiplayer boss fights due to the bosses' scaled health per player. This is why a Hand Gun with infinite ammo is highly sought after, and the Cube Gun's other desirable qualities only add to its appeal.
To delve further into why this gun is exceptional, the Cube Gun's auto-equipped Weapon Mod has a diverse range of applications. Additionally, the Cube Gun itself inflicts substantial damage and is incredibly user-friendly.
3 Sorrow
Now, let's turn our attention to the top three Hand Guns in Remnant 2. Personal preference plays a significant role in determining the best among these guns, as they all have the potential to disrupt the game's balance when properly utilized.
Taking third place is the Sorrow, a fittingly named firearm bestowed upon players by Yaesha's mischievous deity, Meidra. In exchange for her deceased siblings' ring (known as the Tear of Kaeula), players receive this crossbow pistol that is regarded as one of the finest weapons in the game. Its Eulogy Weapon Mod is particularly effective in ensuring the player's survival, making it highly recommended for use in a Hardcore Mode playthrough.
2 Double Barrel
The Hand Gun 'meta' of Remnant 2 has been shaped by the two following weapons, which have been dominant since the game's release and are expected to remain influential in the future. Coming in second place is the Double Barrel, while the Enigma holds the top spot. The Double Barrel shotgun excels at delivering high-impact damage to a single target, but requires players to stay in close proximity to be effective, which may not be a major concern for skilled Challenger players.
Furthermore, when equipped with Mutators like Bandit or Extender, the Double Barrel's DPS output can be doubled or even tripled, allowing players to pull the trigger multiple times before needing to reload.
1 Enigma
The Enigma being the first gun mentioned here may seem unexciting, considering its overuse in Remnant 2 online. However, the truth is undeniable. It's not only easily accessible and comes with a fantastic innate Weapon Mod (Chaos Driver), but it's also the top choice for inflicting damage on multiple targets. Not to mention, it's simply enjoyable to use.
Gunfire Games has made numerous adjustments to this weapon in the few patches they've released since the game's launch, yet it continues to remain immensely powerful. Its only drawback is its limited magazine capacity, but even that can be effectively negated with the appropriate Mutator.
Remnant 2 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
